MS Dhoni became the seventh cricketer to register 4,000 runs in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Dhoni achieved this in the Match 56 (the last of the group stage), while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Dhoni is currently 7 behind David Warner, the only overseas batsman in the top seven. Here is a list of the leading run-scorers in IPL history.

Most runs in IPL history
Runs Batsman SR 100s Teams
4,948 Virat Kohli 131 4 Royal Challengers Bangalore
4,931 Suresh Raina 138 1 Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Lions
4,493 Rohit Sharma 131 1 Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians

4,014 David Warner 142 3 Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad
4,007 MS Dhoni 139 Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant/Supergiants

Of Dhoni’s runs, 3,433 have come for CSK and the rest for Rising Pune Supergiants/Supergiant (RPS). He has scored 3,859 of these as wicketkeeper and 3,717 as captain.

The list of highest run-scorers in IPL history is led by Virat Kohli (4,948), with Suresh Raina (4,931) hot on his heels. However, while Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been eliminated from IPL 2018, Raina’s CSK have made it to the Playoffs.

Shikhar Dhawan (3,998) of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is 9 behind Dhoni. Dhawan and Dhoni will be pitted against each other in Qualifier 1 on May 22, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Raina will also play the match, with an eye on both Kohli’s record and the 5,000-run mark.

Interestingly, Dhoni has never reached 80 in an IPL innings (his best is 79*). Only three others (Kieron Pollard, with 2,476 runs; Rahul Dravid, 2,174; and JP Duminy, 2,029) have scored 2,000 IPL runs without reaching 80.
