MS Dhoni smashed 51* off 22 balls (with 2 fours and 5 sixes) against Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the match 30 of Vivo IPL 2018. In the process he went past Gautam Gambhir‘s 3,518 runs as IPL captain. Dhoni now has 3,556 runs as captain and is ahead of Gambhir by 38 runs. This season, the fans have witnessed a return of vintage Dhoni of 2005 and 2006. He has scored 286 runs with a strike rate of 169 and average of 71. He also recorded his second-fastest half-century today, off only 22 balls.

With Gambhir stepping down from captaincy it is unlikely that he will reclaim the record. CSK posted a huge 211 with Shane Watson smashing 78 off 40 balls. Ambati Rayudu also contributed with 41 in 24. Dhoni climbed up the Orange Cap chart to fourth spot today. Overall, Dhoni has scored 3,847 IPL runs so far, and is ranked eighth in the list of all-time highest run-scorer.
