Mumbai Indians lost their fifth match in the VIVO IPL 2018 after losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the match 23 at Wankhede stadium. SRH defeated MI both the times as this time they won by 31 runs and defended the lowest total of 118 in IPL 2018 and second lowest total in IPL. Only two MI batmen managed to score in double digit as the rest of the line-up failed to deliver. MI also recorded their lowest total in IPL.
MI recorded the lowest Powerplay score of IPL 2018 scoring only 22 runs losing 3 wickets. Evin Lewis got the leading edge off Sandeep Sharma’s bowling, Ishan Kishan in the next over trying to take on Mohammad Nabi mistimed one to the fielder on long-on and Rohit Sharma edged one to Shikhar Dhawan in the slips. Suryakumar and Krunal Pandya then stitched a valuable partnership of 40 runs for the fourth wicket. Rashid Khan broke the partnership dismissing Pandya for 24.
Kieron Pollard hit one huge six to Shakib Al Hasan but it was Rashid again who got rid of him. He even bowled a maiden in the 17th over at a crucial time of the match. Siddarth Kaul was the star bowler for SRH with impressive figures of 4-0-23-3. He took the wicket of Hardik Pandya who was the last batsman standing in the middle. Meanwhile, Shakib became the first left arm bowler to pick 300 T20 wickets.
Earlier in the match, MI’s displayed an impressive bowling performance to restrict SRH to 118. Mayank Markande regained his purple cap picking up two wickets and top the list with 10 wickets. Kane Williamson also achieved the orange cap with 259 runs. Yusuf Pathan fought hard with knock of 29 but fell to Mustafizur Rahman in the second last over.
