Match 28 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 saw Rajasthan Royals (RR) clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Jaipur. Despite a good stand between Kane Williamson and Alex Hales, visitors suffered a collapse, and could only manage 151 for 7 due to tight bowling from hosts. Krishnappa Gowtham and Jorfa Archer claimed 2 wickets apiece for Rajasthan.

Shikhar Dhawan’s poor run of form after his return from injury. Gowtham bowled him for 6. Williamson and Hales absorbed early pressure, to bring calmness to the dugout. Both played proper cricketing shots, especially Hales.

The pair reached their 50-run stand in 42 balls with Hales contributing 36 runs. Ben Stokes and Ish Sodhi stemmed Hyderabad’s flow of runs to keep their rate under check. Hales was lucky to survive, after Stokes dropped a catch at long off.

Williamson, soon upped the ante, reaching his seventh IPL half-century in 32 deliveries, inclusive of 7 fours and one six. Hales missed out on his fifty by 5 runs, falling to Gowtham for 45.

Sodhi snapped with his New Zealand skipper, Williamson’s wicket for 63. It was a faint under-edge that got the better of Williamson. Manish Pandey and Shakib Al Hasan joined forces, but could not go all out.

Shakib was bowled by Archer off a near-perfect yorker. Archer in the very same over got rid of Yusuf Pathan. Pathan trying to go over third-man, gave a simple catch to Dhawal Kulkarni. Pandey too departed for 16, trying to hit Jaydev Unadkat over the cover region. Archer claimed his third wicket in the form of Rashid Khan.

Wriddihman Saha and Basil Thampi took SRH to 151 for 7 remaining unbeaten on 0 and 11 respectively.

Rajasthan included two debutants in Ish Sodhi and Mahipal Lormor, while Hyderabad handed Alex Hales his first IPL cap.
