Delhi Daredevils (DD) managed to post of 187 for 5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 42 of Vivo IPL 2018 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Despite losing early wickets, Rishabh Pant, took them to a competitive total with his maiden IPL hundred, a blitzkrieg of 128* in 63 balls. Pant smashed 15 fours and 7 sixes to register the highest score by an Indian in IPL history, by anyone for Delhi Daredevils, by anyone against Sunrisers Hyderabad, by anyone at Kotla, and by anyone this season. Pant also became the youngest to hit 1,000 IPL runs and claimed the Orange Cap.

SRH, easily the best bowling attack of this season’s IPL, could not find a way to get him out. Even Bhuvneshwar Kumar leaked 26 in the last over despite getting a wicket off the first ball.

Prithvi Shaw who has provided DD with good starts in the last few games, but was out cheaply on 9, trying to take on Shakib Al Hasan in the fourth over. Jason Roy, who came in for Colin Munro, was out next ball, edging to Shreevats Goswami. Shreyas Iyer was run out at the non-striker’s end in the eighth over trying to steal a single.

In a surprise move, DD promoted Harshal Patel ahead of Glenn Maxwell. Harshal contributed 24 and helped Pant built an important partnership of 55 in 38 balls before getting run out.

Maxwell was reduced to a spectator during the Pant onslaught that followed. He hit so hard that even mistimed shots went for sixes. Maxwell contributed a mere 9 in a 63-run stand in 31 balls as Pant romped to one of the most outrageous shows of the season. SRH had kept things tight conceding only 52 runs in the first 10 overs, but their last 10 overs went for 135.
