Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 9 wickets as they comfortably chased down 187 in Match 42 of Vivo IPL 2018. After losing Alex Hales early, Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan stitched a clinical, chanceless match-winning partnership of 173 to take SRH. With the win SRH became the first team to qualify for the Playoffs.

Dhawan had not been at his best since his comeback, but today he anchored the innings with his 92* in 50 balls. He smashed 9 fours and 4 sixes. Williamson, having a dream IPL season, both with bat and as captain, carved out his sixth half-century of the season and climbed up to the second spot in the Orange Cap list with 493 runs. His 83* included 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Harshal Patel was the only successful bowler for DD as SRH pulled the highest ever run chase in their history, that too with 7 balls to spare, and without trying anything fancy. Neither players showed any sign of urgency; they ran hard between wickets, and found the boundary in almost every will, without trying anything unconventional.

Kotla was earlier lit up by Rishabh Pant‘s spectacular 63-ball 128*, the highest score this season as well as the highest by an Indian in IPL history. Pant had also claimed the Orange Cap. Unfortunately, all that went in vain.
