Delhi Daredevils (DD) managed to keep their playoffs hopes’ alive courtesy a narrow victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday. They have a mountain to climb in order to proceed to the next stage. With a five must-win games remaining, DD’s road journey looks tough with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as their next opponents. To add to DD’s woes, SRH boast of a 60 per cent win record versus DD, and are a force to reckon with at home.

This is the first clash between SRH and DD in the current edition. There has been a contrasting journey for both sides in this season. Shreyas Iyer’s DD are languishing at the sixth spot: 3 victories and 6 defeats. On the other hand, Kane Williamson’s side, that has been led brilliantly and backed up by a superb bowling lineup, are the table-toppers with six wins and only two losses.

In DD’s last clash, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant maximised the shorter boundaries and propelled DD to 196 for 6 in rain-curtailed 18-over contest. Their bowlers, barring Amit Mishra and Trent Boult’s effective death bowling, managed to pull off a heist versus RR.

SRH are coming to this encounter on the back of an impressive away win; versus RR as well. Defending another moderate score, SRH bowlers stole the show with the accuracy of Shakib Al Hasan, Siddarth Kaul and Rashid Khan. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, if fit, will only add more to the bowling combination.

It is DD’s batting versus SRH’s bowling. However, SRH need to address their lower order woes as scope for mistakes minimise going further.

Predictions

With a 6-4 record against DD, SRH are clear favourites. In addition, their home advantage holds them in good stead. Current form, an astute captain and better-oiled bowling lineup will test DD’s big-hitters’ temperament and patience.
