Kolkata posted a mammoth total of 202 in the Match 5 of Indian T20 League 2018 against Chennai in their own backyard. Losing wickets at regular intervals Kolkata made sure the runs came flowing as well. They had lost half their side under 10 overs but the partnership between Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell set things up for them.

Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine  had silenced the crowd in the start of the innings but Chennai kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. At one point the visitors were cruising 10 per over but the bowlers did a good job of pulling things back in the middle overs. Robin Uthappa was seen in fine touch when he hit Ravindra Jadeja  to two consecutive sixes in the sixth over. He was done by the brilliance of Suresh Raina in the field when he was run out in the ninth over. From 80 for 2 Kolkata were soon reduced to 89 for 5.

However, Karthik and Russell kept calm and stitched a much needed partnership of 76 runs. Russell dismissed the ball to every corner of the ground once he was in. He even sent one ball out of the stadium. In his power-hitting innings of 88*(36), he just hit one four and 11 sixes. He was well supported by Karthik who scored 26 off  24.

In the bowling department Harbhajan Singh with his experience dismissed the dangerous looking Narine in his first over. Deepak Chahar who showcased some good swing bowling in the first match was smashed for 18 off his first over. Chennai used a total of seven bowlers in the innings. Dwayne Bravo, Chennai’s specialist death bowler was smashed for 50 off his three overs, courtesy Russell.
