Indian team continued their impressive performance in the first tour match against Cricket Australia XI at Adelaide on Monday. Barring a partnership of Kelvin Smith and openers Ryan Carters, the CA XI hardly put up any fight as wickets tumbled in a heap as they reached 159 for seven at tea on Day One of the tour match. Key bowlers for the Indian team managed to strike. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Varun Aaron were among the wickets in the session.
CA XI were 78 for three at the lunch break. Smith and Carters steadied the ship with some matured display of effort. The duo picked boundaries at regular intervals to keep the score moving. The partnership was finally broken by Bhuvneshwar with Smith caught by Shikhar Dhawan for 40 which included seven boundaries.
Once the 74-run fourth wicket stand was broken, it was all easy for India from thereon. An over after Smith’s dismissal, Ashwin found the edge of Carters and saw the back of the set batsmen. Alex Gregory (3) and Jonte Pattinson (7) were sent back by Aaron and Shami respectively in quick succession.
Aaron has so far been the most successful of al with three for 48. Josh Lalor (14) and David Moody (0) are the unbeaten batsmen at the crease.
