Karachi: Dec 15, 2012

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq, who has been roped in as a batting consultant of the national cricket team, has advised his batsmen to play positively when the limited-overs series against India starts later this month.

“The mood I saw today in the camp is very positive and energetic and it is obvious that the players are very happy with all that the cricket board is doing for the team at the moment,” Inzamam said.

“During my entire career I learnt one thing that when relations between the board and players were good the team always responded well and played positively,” Inzamam told reporters at the Gaddafi stadium.

Inzamam, who will spend a week with the players at the training camp before the team leaves for India on December 22, said his focus as a batting consultant would be on training batsmen to deliver under pressure situations.

“After my retirement this is my first experience in a different role. So, it is going to be a new experience and challenge for me. I just hope that I can deliver the results the board wants from me,” he said.

The 42-year old, who has been appointed by the PCB on a series-to-series basis, said he will teach the batsmen on how to respond in different situations.

“I want to pass on my experience to the next generation of our batsmen. I want to advice them on how to respond when under pressure, how to change a match situation and how to chase totals,” he said.

He said the mood in the Pakistani camp is upbeat for the upcoming series against India.
