Chennai Super Kings eased past Pune Warriors by 25 runs in their Indian Premier League match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk in Chennai. Pune captain Yuvraj Singh kept his side’s hopes alive by being around till the death overs but was unable to force the pace – more importantly he struggled to find the boundaries. He fell trying to up the ante off the bowling off Albie Morkel for 34.
Yuvraj and Manhas earlier steadied the innings somewhat before Manhas feathered one from Doug Bollinger to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for 20.
Yuvraj and Manhas added 38 runs for the fifth wicket after Pune lost four quick wickets in their chase of 143.
Mohnish Mishra was the first to depart in the 3rd over when he played on to Albie Morkel after the batsman had collected a boundary in the same over.
Jesse Ryder was bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin for 15 after he had sashayed down the track and lifted the bowler over his head straight into the sightscreen for the first six of the innings.
In fact, Ryder was showing signs of playing a big knock. One swivel pull of Doug Bollinger to the mid-wicket fence only indicated the kind of mood he was in.
Morkel had his second wicket and his team’s third when Manish Pandey became the second batsman to play on to the bowler.
Earlier, Chennai rode on Mike Hussey’s fighting 61 to post a score of 142 for 6 in 20 overs.
