New Delhi: May 15, 2012
A disciplined bowling effort by Delhi Daredevils (DD) ensured Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) reach a score of 136 for the loss of eight wickets in the 64th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012 at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi.
Winning the toss, Punjab skipper David Hussey opted to bat first. The visitors were on the back foot from the start as openers Shaun Marsh and Mandeep Singh were back in the pavilion before fielding restriction ended. Both players were dismissed by pacer Varun Aaron.
However skipper Hussey attempted to consolidate the innings as he tried to stitch partnerships. But the loss of wickets at the other end left his effort futile.
Hussey top scopred for Punjab with unbeaten 40 runs while Umesh Yadav was the pick of Delhi bowlers with three wickets conceding just 21 runs.
The Daredevils have been mostly dependent on their top-order batsmen to fire. Inevitably when skipper Virender Sehwag or David Warner have failed to provide momentum, the home team has looked pretty ordinary as the middle-order batsmen are yet to stand-up and be counted.
Brief Score: KXIP 136 for 8 in 20 overs (David Hussey 40, Mandeep Singh 21; Umesh Yadav 3 for 21, Varun Aaron 2 for 19) vs DD
