Dharamsala: May 17, 2012
A sterling bowling performance by Praveen Kumar and Parvinder Awana helped keep Chennai Super Kings to 120 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Praveen ended with figures of 2 for 18, while Awana finished with 2 for 12.
Chennai’s openers seemed to be getting off to a decent start, but both fell in quick succession. Murali Vijay edged Praveen Kumar to Gilchrist while attempting an extravagant stroke in the third over. Praveen caused further problems to Chennai when he sent back Michael Hussey in the fifth over with the score reading 20 for two.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Chennai captain, promoted himself to number four and needed to construct a partnership with Suresh Raina. However, Chennai were in deeper trouble as Raina lost his wicket to Azhar Mahmood after hitting him for two sixes.
The move to promote Dhoni didn’t work as he was dismissed by Awana for six with the score at 46 for four in the eleventh over.
Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja put together a fighting stand of 32. Jadeja lost his wicket while trying to accelerate the scoring when Chennai were 78 in the 16th over.
It was Bravo’s knock that kept Chennai in the hunt. In the 17th over, he hit David Hussey for two sixes and brought up Chennai’s 100 a four hit by Bravo in the next.
Albie Morkel tried to break free and managed to hit a six and a four during his brief stay in the middle.
Brief Scores: CSK 120 for 7 in 20 overs ( Dwayne Bravo 48, Praveen Kumar 2 for 18, Parvinder Awana 2 for 12) vs KXIP
