Giant screens go up all over the city as Kolkata cricket enthusiasts arm up for the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that kicks off at the Eden Gardens April 3.
Restaurants across the city are putting up projector screens and extra LCD screens to create a stadium-like aura where guests can savour every moment of the match on the big-screen.
Caught n Bowled in City Centre mall, in the satellite township of Salt Lake, is doing up its interiors to create a whole new ambience, equipped with a projector and an extra LCD screen for all the matches, according to its official Pradip Majumder.
The Big Ben of Kenilworth hotel, a popular night club in the city, will use one extra LCD screen exclusively for the Kolkata Knight Riders matches.
Catering to youngsters, the tea cafe The Tea Trove on Sarat Bose Road will do the special screening of the matches on a giant projector screen for all 51 days.
“Our guests can watch all the matches here on all the IPL days,” Shruti Kanoi, owner of The Tea Trove, told IANS.
“We plan to hang out at the clubs during the matches and enjoy with everybody. Watching them on the big screen with the crowd will be a delight,” said software executive Abhishek Gupta.
With nine teams and over 70 matches, IPL 6 will be officially inaugurated April 2 at a glittering ceremony at the Salt Lake Stadium followed by the first match of the league between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils on April 3 at the historic Eden Gardens.
The gala opening will see rapper Pitbull and Bollywood actors Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone enthrall audiences.
