IPL 2013 Live cricket score, CSK vs KKR at Chennai: Gautam Gambhir falls early

Kolkata are chasing 201 to win © IANS

Chennai: Apr 28, 2013

KKR 186/4 | Overs 20 | Morgan 32*, Y Pathan 3*

Chris Morris bowls the last over and gives just two singles off the first three balls. With 17 required from three, Morris bowls a wide full toss to Morgan, who slashes but misses. Game over there! Morris finishes it off with two screaming yorkers. Fantastic stuff from young Morris!

CSK win by 14 runs.

KKR 182/4 | Overs 19 | Morgan 30*, Y Pathan 1* OUT! Bisla 92(61)

Morgan easily beats Bisla in cute shots as he switches his stance and paddles the ball between short third man and Dhoni for four. Bisla then drills the ball to mid-off and sets off for a quick single, but Mike Hussey swoops in and gets a direct hit with Bisla well short of his crease. End of a fine innings, albeit this could be the turning point in the game.

KKR need 19 runs from 6 balls.

KKR 172/3 | Overs 18 | Bisla 78*, Morgan 18*

Dirk Nannes bowls short and Eoin Morgan dispatches it into the stands behind deep mid-wicket for six. The right-hander Bisla then almost emulates his partner and gets four for it. Bisla wants more as he pulls Nannes for maximum to deep backward square-leg. The over ends with a lucky boundary for Bisla to third-man via an outside edge. 21 runs come from the over!

KKR need 29 runs from 12 balls.

KKR 151/3 | Overs 17 | Bisla 78*, Morgan 18*

Bisla makes 1000 sq ft of room for himself and slices Dwayne Bravo to the deep point fence. Another cheeky shot is in store as he makes 2000 sq ft of room and guides the ball down to the vacant fine-leg fence.

KKR need 50 runs from 18 balls.

KKR 138/3 | Overs 16 | Bisla 67*, Morgan 16*

Bisla shuffles across and scoops Dirk Nannes over to the fine-leg fence for four. Morgan then ruins an otherwise good over for Chennai with a six over long-off. KKR need more of these hits.

KKR need 63 runs from 24 balls.

KKR 126/3 | Overs 15 | Bisla 62*, Morgan 9*

Bisla gives himself room and lofts Dwayne Bravo, bowling from around the wicket, over mid-off for a boundary. Bravo then hurts himself trying to field off his own bowling as the ball hits him above the brow.

KKR need 75 runs from 30 balls.

KKR 119/3 | Overs 14 | Bisla 58*, Morgan 7*

Manvinder Bisla’s love-affair with the MA Chidambaram Stadium continues as he brings up his fifty with a powerful drive for four between deep mid-wicket and long-on. Chennai fans wouldn’t have forgotten Bisla’s match-winning 89 in last year’s final. Bisla then makes good use of an Ashwin full toss to send it crashing into the long-on fence.

KKR need 82 runs from 36 balls.

KKR 107/3 | Overs 13 | Bisla 48*, Morgan 5* OUT! Kallis 19(20)

Jacques Kallis tries a cheeky Dilscoop off Dwayne Bravo, but only finds the fielder at short fine-leg. End of a good-looking partnership for KKR. Kallis was just about getting comfortable in the middle. Eoin Morgan is the new man in, and gets a luck outside edge wide of Dhoni for four. You could say these two batsmen in the middle are KKR’s best bet to take them past the line.

KKR 99/2 | Overs 12 | Bisla 45*, Kallis 19*

Ravi Ashwin bowls another quiet over that included a run-out referral that took ages! The question was whether Bisla’s bat was in the air while grounding, and the third umpire took about a couple of hours to decide it wasn’t!

KKR 94/2 | Overs 11 | Bisla 44*, Kallis 16*

Jacques Kallis finally decided to let loose as he blasts Ravindra Jadeja straight down the ground for another huge six for KKR. Dhoni then misses an easy stumping to give Kallis a third life! Will Chennai pay for their generosity?

KKR 85/2 | Overs 10 | Bisla 44*, Kallis 7*

Suresh Raina spills a difficult low catch after Jacques Kallis finally decides to go for the big hit. The South African goes for the lofted drive, mistimes it, but is given another life by one of the best fielders in the Chennai team. Bisla then shows his senior teammate how it’s done as he pummels Ravi Ashwin over long-on for a huge six.

KKR 76/2 | Overs 9 | Bisla 36*, Kallis 5*

KKR go three overs without a boundary as Ravindra Jadeja comes in to bowl and gives just four singles. The required rate is now 11.36. The visitors need to start taking some risks here.

KKR 72/2 | Overs 8 | Bisla 34*, Kallis 3*

Mohit Sharma completes his spell with great figures of one for 23. Just five runs come from his last over and this is the second consecutive one for KKR where they haven’t scored a boundary. KKR’s required run-rate is now almost 11 rpo.

KKR 67/2 | Overs 7 | Bisla 31*, Kallis 1*

Dirk Nannes comes back for a second over, after conceding 18 in his first, and does a good job this time, giving away just four runs.

KKR 63/2 | Overs 6 | Bisla 29*, Kallis 0* OUT! McCullum 6(7)

Brendon McCullum gets his first boundary with a sweet cover-drive, before Bisla pulls Mohit Sharma again for another boundary. The Chennai bowler, however, recovers well to bowl McCullum off the last ball of the over. KKR score 63 runs from the Powerplay overs, losing two overs.

KKR 51/1 | Overs 5 | Bisla 23*, McCullum 1*

Bisla gets into the groove and cuts Chris Morris for four, before flicking him uppishly off his pads for four more to deep square-leg. Next, he smashes a full-length ball straight down the ground for another boundary. Bisla ends the over with another powerful pull for four. Great over for KKR!

KKR 33/1 | Overs 4 | Bisla 7*, McCullum 0*

Mohit Sharma comes back to bowl a superb second over, giving away just one run. Chennai are upping the pressure on the defending cahmpions.

KKR 32/1 | Overs 3 | Bisla 6*, McCullum 0* OUT! Gambhir 14(8)

Gautam Gambhir reaches low to slice Chris Morris over point and gets four for his efforts. The left-hander then pulls morris for another boundary, and goes for another one, but misses the pitch of the ball and gets bowled. Big wicket for Chennai! Brendon McCullum comes in at No 3.

KKR 24/0 | Overs 2 | Bisla 6*, Gambhir 6*

Manvinder Bisla cracks a cover-drive off Mohit Sharma, and then almost runs himself out.

KKR 18/0 | Overs 1 | Bisla 1*, Gambhir 5*

Dirk Nannes starts off with five wides and then oversteps to concede a free hit. He bowls Manvinder Bisla off it. To add salt to the wounds, the ball runs away for four byes after hitting the stumps. Nannes’ rustiness continues as he bowls a big wide down the leg. Eighteen runs come from the over, just six of them off the bat.

CSK 200/3 | Overs 20 | Dhoni 18*, Jadeja 1* OUT! Raina 44(25)

Balaji comes back for his fourth. MS Dhoni hits him towards extra cover and wants two; the batsmen scamper back but Raina is caught inches short of the crease to be run out for 44. Balaji bowls well and in the block hole, save for the last ball which is a full toss and Dhoni smacks it over wide long-on to bring up the 200.

CSK 188/2 | Overs 19 | Raina 43*, Dhoni 8*

Jacques Kallis gets a final over after conceding 41 in the earlier three. He gives away just four singles off the first four balls, before Raina slices him past point for four. Kallis ends up going for fifty in his spell!

CSK 179/2 | Overs 18 | Raina 36*, Dhoni 6*

Balaji comes back for his third over and concedes a boundary off the last ball to MS Dhoni. It was an attempted yorker that ended up a low full toss, and Dhoni wasn’t going to let that go.

CSK 168/2 | Overs 17 | Raina 32*, Dhoni 0*

Jacques Kallis is back into the attack after going for 32 off his first two overs. Raina greets him with a whip off the legs behind square for four. Ten come off the over as Chennai creep towards 200.

CSK 158/2 | Overs 16 | Raina 23*, Dhoni 0* OUT! M Hussey 95(55)

Sunil Narine has had a horrid time out in the middle today and it gets worse as Suresh Raina clobbers his full toss straight down the ground for four. However, Mike Hussey gives his wicket away trying to clear deep mid-wicket, but finds the fielder to give Narine his first wicket. End of another superb innings from Huss!

CSK 151/1 | Overs 15 | M Hussey 94*, Raina 17*

Yusuf Pathan comes back for a second over and bowls a good one, but for the last ball which is thwacked over wide long-on for six. Hussey is into the nineties with that shot as CSK cross 150.

CSK 139/1 | Overs 14 | M Hussey 84*, Raina 15*

Suresh Raina swings Sunil Narine over extra cover for his 100th six in the IPL! Brendon McCullum then mis-fields at long-off and leaks another boundary to Chennai. These runs are sure to cost KKR later on!

CSK 127/1 | Overs 13 | M Hussey 83*, Raina 4*

Mike Hussey looks to sweep, but changes his shot at the last moment to guide Rajat Bhatia’s delivery to the third-man fence. He ends the over with another another boundary to deep square-leg. Thirteen come off the ovre.

CSK 114/1 | Overs 12 | M Hussey 72*, Raina 2*

L Balaji comes back into the attack, but it seems he hasn’t learnt from mistakes as he bowls short to Hussey who pulls it to fine-leg for four. Chennai get four more runs from the over.

CSK 106/1 | Overs 11 | M Hussey 65*, Raina 1* OUT! Saha 39(23)

Rajat Bhatia gets the first breakthrough — that of Wriddhiman Saha. The right-handed batsman plays a lofted drive towards wide long-on and the catch is easily taken by Eoin Morgan. Just three runs come from the over along with a welcome wicket for Kolkata.

CSK 103/0 | Overs 10 | M Hussey 63*, Saha 39*

Sunil Narine comes back for a second and gives away seven runs. Chennai still look good to reach 200 here.

CSK 96/0 | Overs 9 | M Hussey 58*, Saha 37*

Rajat Bhatia’s good over is ruined on the last ball after Mike Hussey drives him over cover for a boundary. Ten runs come off the over.

CSK 86/0 | Overs 8 | M Hussey 50*, Saha 35*

Jacques Kallis continues to get ripped to shreds as Michael Hussey drives the South African over wide long-on for maximum. Kallis continues to bowl short — a crime on this surface — and Bisla steps in to pull him for four. Hussey then reaches his half-century off just 31 balls with a flick off the hips for a single.

CSK 72/0 | Overs 7 | M Hussey 42*, Saha 29*

Medium-pacer Rajat Bhatia comes into the attack and does a good job of it, giving just five runs.

CSK 67/0 | Overs 6 | M Hussey 40*, Saha 26*

Jacques Kallis comes into the attack and gets pulled to long off, before Bisla follows suit and whacks him to deep mid-wicket. Saha wants more as he lofts Kallis for six straight over long-off. Kallis is being taken apart here! You don’t get to see that too often! Chennai have 67 runs from the Powerplay overs; they couldn’t have asked for more!

CSK 49/0 | Overs 5 | M Hussey 33*, Saha 15*

Sunil Narine is immediately brought into the attack after Chennai’s initial onslaught, but it makes no difference to Mike Hussey. First the Australian veteran gets a fine cut past the keeper for four, before punishing a short-pitched delivery to the deep mid-wicket fence.

CSK 40/0 | Overs 4 | M Hussey 24*, Saha 15*

Wriddhiman Saha gets into the action and hits Shami Ahmed for two boundaries, the first an uppish drive to long on and the next, a pull to fine-leg. Meanwhile, Hussey nearly gets himself run out. Shami then bowls wide and invites a drive through the covers for four more. Chennai are already in fifth gear!

CSK 25/0 | Overs 3 | M Hussey 24*, Saha 1*

Michael Hussey steps down the track and drives Lakshmipathy Balaji for four through the covers, before deftly cutting him to the third-man fence for another boundary. Balaji then gifts a slow full toss which is whacked through the covers yet again. Good over for Chennai!

CSK 11/0 | Overs 2 | M Hussey 10*, Saha 1*

Mohammed Shami Ahmed comes in to bowl the second over. The right-handed medium-pacer bolws short and drifts down the leg, as Hussey swivels and pulls it to the fine-leg fence for the first boundary of the afternoon.

CSK 6/0 | Overs 1 | M Hussey 5*, Saha 1*

Yusuf Pathan bowls the first over for KKR and does a decent job of it, giving away just six runs. Michael Hussey got some timely strokes in, but couldn’t reach the boundary.

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir has won the toss and decided to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

MS Dhoni has no issues as he would have batted first anyway, he says.

The big news from the team changes is that Brendon McCullum finally gets a game for KKR, in place of Sachithra Senanayake.

Teams:

Kolkata Knight Riders: Brendon McCullum, Gautam Gambhir (c), Manvinder Bisla (wk), Jacques Kallis, Yusuf Pathan, Eoin Morgan, Debabrata Das, Rajat Bhatia, Sunil Narine, Shami Ahmed, Lakshmipathy Balaji.

Chennai Super Kings: Michael Hussey, Wriddhiman Saha, Suresh Raina, S Badrinath, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Morris, Ravichandran Ashwin, Dirk Nannes, Mohit Mahipal Sharma
