Ravichandran Ashwin opens the batting for Chennai and he makes a confident start. A chance for run out against Michael Hussey on the last ball at the non striker’s end but the throw was too far away.
The two-time champions failed to put up a fight after Chennai jolted them early on, and slipped to 119 for nine on a flat track at the Eden Gardens. Chennai seamers were impressive early on, fielders were magnificent and spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja did the rest.

Sunil Narine is out after a quick knock of 6-ball 13. Narine slams another six over the midwicket area off Ravindra Jadeja, goes for another in the next delivery but is caught at the boundary by Mohit Sharma.
Sunil Narine slams a six over the midwicket boundary and three singles off R Ashwin help KKR limp past the 100-run mark.
Rajat Bhatia gives a simple return catch to Ravindra Jadeja, who bags his second wicket in the over trapping Laxmi Ratan Shukla in front of the wickets for one.
Manoj Tiwary is caught at the deep midwicket boundary by Mohit Sharma as Kolkata lose another. A wicket maiden by R Ashwin, who claimes his second wicket in the match.

Debabrata Das walks across the stumps and misses a sweep shot, the ball crashes on to the pads and he is out leg before. Both Manoj Tiwary and Das were living dangerously as the former too had a close shave. Das fell after scoring a brisk 19.

Tiwary and Das add five runs off Ravindra Jadeja;s first over of the match but not without taking few risks. Two chances of run out but Chennai fielders miss it.
Ravichandran Ashwin keeps it tight in his first over of the game as Manoj Tiwary and Debabrata Das manage only three runs off it.
Debabrata Das picks up a slow delivery off Dwayne Bravo and slams it for a six over the mid-on boundary to mark a good over for the KKR side. Kolkata reach 65 for four after 10 overs.
Only two runs from the over and luckily for the KKR side no wicket fell. They have slipped from 44 for no loss to 55 for four.

Kolkata Knight Riders are in big trouble! Two wickets in the eighth over off Dwayne Bravo as Chennai are in complete command. The in-form Eoin Morgan falls on a slowish delivery as he chips towards the leg side, but the ball takes leading edge and Ravindra Jadeja does the rest. A delivery later, Yusuf Pathan and Manoj Tiwary miscommunicate on the second run on last ball and the former is gone.

Chennai are back in the game! Big blow for the home side as Subramaniam Badrinath’s direct hit at the striker’s end removes Jacques Kallis for a duck. Pathan pushes for a single towards the point area, Badrinath comes running in from the backward point and throws it at the stumps.
Big wicket! Gautam Gambhir makes room to slash a rising delivery off Chris Morris towards the thirdman. Mr Cricket as he is fondly called, takes a brilliant catch to send the KKR skipper packing. Kolkata lose their run machine.
A misfield by Mohit Sharma at the thirdman gifts a boundary to the home side skipper Gambhir. The left-hander pulls on the next ball off Albie Morkel, which takes the leading edge and flies over CSK wicketkeeper Dhoni for another.
Yusuf Pathan manages to hit above the fielder at mid-on to start off with a boundary. Chris Morris bounces back to give away only two more runs off the next five balls.
Gautam Gambhir hits a boundary from the gap between the wicketkeeper and a wide slip off Albie Morkel. KKR batsmen take three singles in the over to take the run count to seven.
Yusuf Pathan cracks two boundaries off Mohit Sharma to provide KKR some momentum early on. Mohit keeps it short and the attacking batsman does the rest to put the ball away.
Gautam Gambhir starts with a boundary towards the third man off Albie Morkel, and puts the fourth ball away towards the cover region for another. Out-of-form Yusuf Pathan gets away with a single on the last to mark a good start for the Knight Riders.
The Knight Riders have made one change to their side, bringing in Lakshmi Ratan Shukla in place of the out of sorts Manvinder Bisla.
The sky is covered with a layer of thick clouds as the two champion side clash at the historic Eden Gardens.
