IPL 2013 Live Cricket Score, KXIP vs SRH at Mohali: Hyderabad bowlers do the job again

IPL 2013 Live Cricket Score, KXIP vs SRH at Mohali: Dale Steyn strikes in first over

Kings XI Punjab need 151 to win the match © IANS

Mohali: May 11, 2013

KXIP 120/9 | Overs 20 | Pomersbach 33*,  Sandeep 0* OUT! Harmeet 3(4), Awana 0(1)

Harmeet Singh runs himself out on the first ball, in a bid to give Luke Pomersbach the strike. The Australian then connects for the first time this evening and lands the ball just over the long-on fence. Parvinder Awana then gives Darren Sammy his fourth wicket after trying the same, but finding the fielder.

SRH win by 30 runs.

KXIP 111/7 | Overs 19 | Pomersbach 24*, Harmeet 3* OUT! Praveen 1(3)

Dale Steyn steams in for his final over and shatters the woodwork of Praveen Kumar, who had no idea where that ball came from! Just four come off the over, leaving KXIP an improbable 40 to get off the last six balls.

KXIP need 40 runs from 6 balls.

KXIP 107/6 | Overs 18 | Pomersbach 23*, Praveen 1* OUT! Chawla 0(2)

Piyush Chawal falls for a duck as a mistimed flick off the hips skies straight over Shikhar Dhawan at mid-wicket, who takes an easy catch.

KXIP need 44 runs from 12 balls.

KXIP 102/5 | Overs 17 | Pomersbach 20*, Chawla 0* OUT! Sathish 25(18)

R Sathish is run out after KXIP try to sneak in a second that was never there. Needless wicket to concede there; Sathish was striking the ball well!

KXIP need 49 runs from 18 balls.

KXIP 96/4 | Overs 16 | Pomersbach 16*, Sathish 24*

Karan Sharma fails to hold on to a simple high catch at point. Absolutely criminal at this level! KXIP however fail to make contact with Thisara Perera’s deliveries and score just three runs from the over.

KXIP need 55 runs from 24 balls.

KXIP 93/4 | Overs 15 | Pomersbach 14*, Sathish 23*

Dale Steyn is brought back into the attack to calm the Sunrisers’ nerves after that big over. Steyn does well, conceding just four runs. Anyone’s game to call.

KXIP 89/4 | Overs 14 | Pomersbach 11*, Sathish 23*

R Sathis goes berserk! The right-hander first pummels Amit Mishra over deep mid-wicket for two huge sixes, before cleverly cutting the leg-spinner wide of point for four. 18 runs come from the over — just what KXIP needed.

KXIP 71/4 | Overs 13 | Pomersbach 10*, Sathish 6*

Thisara Perera’s good over is ruined in the last two balls as Parthiv Patel fails to collect the ball and concedes four runs, before Pomersback improvises, steps aside and guides the ball to the left of the keeper for four more.

KXIP 62/4 | Overs 12 | Pomersbach 6*, Sathish 5*

Amit Mishra gets his first over and concedes just two tuns as KXIP’s required rate continues to creep higher.

KXIP 60/4 | Overs 11 | Pomersbach 5*, Sathish 4*

Karan Sharma bowls an excellent first over to crank up the pressure on the hosts. Luke Pomersbach found the spinner’s variations difficult to read.

KXIP 54/4 | Overs 10 | Pomersbach 2*, Sathish 1* OUT! Miller 6(7)

Darren Sammy comes back for his second over and gets another wicket off the first ball! The dangerous David ‘Killer’ Miller spanks Sammy good-length ball straight to Cameron White at cover and KXIP are in trouble here.

KXIP 51/3 | Overs 9 | Pomersbach 0*, Miller 6*

Hanuma Vihari bowls the last over before the first Strategic Timeout and conceded just one run, as Hyderabad give Punjab a thing or two to think about.

KXIP 50/3 | Overs 8 | Pomersbach 0*, Miller 5* OUT! Marsh 18(20), Gilchrist 26(22)

Darren Sammy gets two in two! Shaun Marsh first mistimes a pull off as the balls loops towards long-on, where Thisara Perera runs in and takes a great catch. Then, off the very next ball, Sammy gets Gilchrist to drag one back onto his stumps to give SRH their third wicket. The pacifier is out and the Gangnam is on!

KXIP 45/1 | Overs 7 | Gilchrist 26*, Marsh 18*

Adam Gilchrist gets a life after Parthiv Patel misses an easy stumping off the bowling of Hanuma Vihari. How costly will that turn out to be?

KXIP 41/1 | Overs 6 | Gilchrist 25*, Marsh 16*

Adam Gilchrist makes room for himself and thwacks Ishant Sharma square of the wicket for four. Ishant bowls fuller, but wide and that’s all Gilly needs to drive it through the covers right out of the middle of his bat. He’s warming up well, here.

KXIP 29/1 | Overs 5 | Gilchrist 13*, Marsh 16*

Adam Gilchrist gets his second boundary as he drives Ishant Sharma’s fullish delivery outside off-stump through the covers.

KXIP 22/1 | Overs 4 | Gilchrist 7*, Marsh 15*

Some comedy transpires as Adam Gilchrist hits Ishant Sharma just over the latter’s outstretched hand. Amit Mishra, from mid-on, and Thisara Perera, from mid-off, both converge to field the ball, but don’t communicate as Mishra slides and trips over Perera. Meanwhile, the ball runs down the fence for four.

KXIP 17/1 | Overs 3 | Gilchrist 2*, Marsh 15*

Dale Steyn offers Shaun Marsh width twice in the over, and that’s enough for the Australian to cut it away for four.

KXIP 7/1 | Overs 2 | Gilchrist 1*, Marsh 6*

Shaun Marsh elegantly drives Ishant Sharma straight down the ground to score Punjab’s first boundary. That’ll give him a lot of confidence.

KXIP 2/1 | Overs 1 | Gilchrist 1*, Marsh 1* OUT! Mandeep 0(2)

Mandeep Singh flops again for Punjab as Dale Steyn gets a wicket in the very first over for SRH. It was a scorching delivery heading for middle, Mandeep tries to flick it down the leg but gets the leading edge that loops up towards cover, where Cameron White swoops in to take a good diving catch.

SRH 150/7 | Overs 20 | Perera 32*, Steyn 1*

Praveen Kumar bowls another low full toss and is whacked again for four by Thisara Perera, who places it nicely between deep mid-wicket and long-on. SRH get to 150 in the end — something that would have seemed impossible after being 52 for five at one stage. 86 runs came from the last nine overs. KXIP have their task cut out here. Join us in a bit for the chase.

SRH 142/7 | Overs 19 | Perera 27*, Steyn 0* OUT! Parthiv 61(47)

Harmeet Singh bowls full and straight to Parthiv Patel, who makes room for himself and slices the bowler over deep point for six. Then, the diminutive left-hander moves across and pulls Harmeet for four more to deep backward squareleg. Parthiv them gets himself run out off the last ball of the over to end a responsible innings.

SRH 128/6 | Overs 18 | Parthiv 50*, Perera 24*

Thisara Perera gets another biggie as he drives Praveen Kumar’s fullish delivery over long-on. Praveen then goes for a yorker, but can only manage a low full-toss which is easily flicked to the deep squareleg fence for four. Parthiv Patel then brings up the fifty of his very mature innings with a gentle flick off the pads for a single.

SRH 114/6 | Overs 17 | Parthiv 49*, Perera 11*

Thisara Perera powerfully smacks Parvinder Awana’s short delivery straight down the ground for maximum to get the death overs started. If SRH can somehow get to 135-140, they’d be in pole position.

SRH 104/6 | Overs 16 | Parthiv 47*, Perera 3*

Piyush Chawla completes his impressive spell with figures of 4-0-20-1. He could have had another wicket in the last column had Mandeep Singh and Praveen Kumar had communicated properly while going for a catch simultaneously, after Thisara Perera mistimed a drive.

SRH 98/6 | Overs 15 | Parthiv 44*, Perera 0* OUT! K Sharma 22(18)

Karan Sharma gets a cheeky edge past the keeper to third-man for four off Parvinder Awana, before his little cameo is brought to an end. Sharma goes for the pull, gets the top edge and the catch is pouched easily by Adam Gilchrist. Finally, Perera walks in.

SRH 89/5 | Overs 14 | Parthiv 39*, K Sharma 18*

Karan Sharma hits a welcome six for the Sunrisers — their first of the night — before pulling Harmeet Singh with flair one-bounce to the deep squareleg fence.

SRH 76/5 | Overs 13 | Parthiv 37*, K Sharma 7*

Piyush Chawla bowls his third straight over and continues to keep it tight. Hyderabad would be aiming for 130, which would still be defendable on this green pitch.

SRH 71/5 | Overs 12 | Parthiv 33*, K Sharma 6*

Parthiv Patel keeps Sunrisers going as he steps down and flicks Sandeep Sharma to deep mid-wicket for four. Sandeep finishes his spell with figures of three for 21.

SRH 64/5 | Overs 11 | Parthiv 27*, K Sharma 5*

The Sunrisers sneak in eight runs off Piyush Chawla’s second over, but need many more to get themselves to a decent score.

SRH 56/5 | Overs 10 | Parthiv 23*, K Sharma 1*

Sandeep Sharma misses out on a hat-trick, but bowls a decent over, giving just four runs to Hyderabad. At the halfway stage, Hyderabad find themselves in deep waters.

SRH 52/5 | Overs 9 | Parthiv 20*, K Sharma 0* OUT! Sammy 0(3)

Piyush Chawla foxes Darren Sammy with a googly. Half of the Hyderabad side is now back in the pavilion. Surprisingly, it’s Karan Sharma who’s come in at No 7; still no Thisara Perera. Wonder what they’re saving him for!

SRH 51/4 | Overs 8 | Parthiv 18*, Sammy 0* OUT! White 10(8), Samantray 0(1)

Sandeep Sharma gets two in two! What a debut this is turning out to be for him! First, he gets Cameron White trapped in front on a ball that is angling down the leg, but the umpire thinks it’s enough to hit leg-stump. Then, he bowls through the gates of Biplab Samantray to get his third wicket of the night.

SRH 48/2 | Overs 7 | Parthiv 18*, White 9*

Parthiv Patel and Cameron White spank Harmeet Singh down the ground for two boundaries. Both these batsmen are capable of taking this game away from Punjab with his hitting.

SRH 37/2 | Overs 6 | Parthiv 12*, White 4* OUT! Vihari 5(7)

IPL debutant Sandeep Sharma concedes a boundary on his first ball as Hanuma Vihari makes use of a juicy wide and full delivery and sends it to extra cover. Sandeep bowls another wide loosener later, but this time Vihari can only find point to give Punjab their second wicket.

SRH 29/1 | Overs 5 | Parthiv 12*, Vihari 1* OUT! Dhawan 15(14)

Harmeet Singh, ever the partnership breaker, dismisses Shikhar Dhawan first ball as the left-handed batsman gives a simple return catch off a mistimed flick.

SRH 28/0 | Overs 4 | Dhawan 15*, Parthiv 12*

Parthiv Patel ruins an excellent over from Parvinder Awana on the last ball as he punches the bowler through the covers for four.

SRH 23/0 | Overs 3 | Dhawan 14*, Parthiv 8*

Shikhar Dhawan flicks Praveen Kumar off his pads and wide of mid-wicket for four after the bowler drifts down the leg.

SRH 15/0 | Overs 2 | Dhawan 7*, Parthiv 8*

Shikhar Dhawan punches Parvinder Awana through the covers for the first boundary, before Parthiv Patel almost holes out to Praveen Kumar at third man with an upper cut. The catch was however too high for Praveen, who spilled it over the rope for six.

SRH 4/0 | Overs 1 | Dhawan 2*, Parthiv 2*

Praveen Kumar bowls a good first over for Punjab, troubling Shikhar Dhawan with his accurate line and even getting in a couple of leg-before appeals. The batsman survives, though.

Adam Gilchrist wins the toss and elects to field first against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 59th match of the Indian Premier League 2013.

Kumar Sangakkara has opted out with Cameron White leading the away side. They also bring in Biplab Samantray for Ashish Reddy who has an injured thumb.

The bigger gamble however, is the inclusion of Luke Pomersbach in place of David Hussey. They also have youngster Sandeep Sharma in the side.

Teams:

Kings XI Punjab: Adam Gilchrist (c & wk), Mandeep Singh, Shaun Marsh, Luke Pomersbach, David Miller, Rajagopal Sathish, Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, Harmeet Singh, Parvinder Awana, Sandeep Sharma.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Parthiv Patel (wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Hanuma Vihari, Cameron White (c), Thisara Perera, Darren Sammy, Biplab Samantray, Karan Sharma, Amit Mishra, Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma.
