Mumbai: May 7, 2013

KKR 104/9 | Overs 18.2 |  Abdulla 5*, OUT! Balaji 0(3)

L Balaji is cleaned up by Lasith Malinga for a duck and it’s all over for the Knight Riders. The Mumbai Indians have won by 65 runs. A comprehensive win!

KKR 104/9 | Overs 18 |  Abdulla 5*, Balaji 2* OUT! Narine 3(6)

Sunil Narine is out for three and KKR have lost their ninth wicket. Narine tries to hit a rising delivery off Mitchell Johnson, gets a nick and is out!

KKR 100/8 | Overs 17 |  Abdulla 5*, Narine 2*

Kolkata scamper for three more runs off Lasith Malinga as they cross the 100-run mark.

KKR 97/8 | Overs 16 |  Abdulla 4*,   OUT! Bhatia 4(5)

Rajat Bhatia tries to sweep but gets a leading edge, Lasith Malinga runs in from the short-leg position to end his stay at the crease. Harbhajan takes his third in the game!

KKR 92/7 | Overs 15 |  Abdulla 2*, Bhatia 1*  OUT! McLaren 1(3)

Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions of IPL 2013, are falling apart fast. Ryan McLaren is run-out and KKR have lost their seventh wicket. Mumbai Indians are all over their opponents. Almost an impossible task ahead of the Knight Riders, as they need a further 79 runs to win from 30 balls.

KKR 89/6 | Overs 14 |   McLaren 1*  OUT! Das 23(17)

Das swats a six over deep midwicket off Harbhajan Singh on the first ball, gets a boundary on the second last ball and is out on the last! Harbhajan takes a return catch to send back perhaps the last recognised batsman in the KKR line-up.

KKR 79/5 | Overs 13 |  Das 13*,  McLaren 1*  OUT! Morgan 5(10)

Big blow to the Knight Riders as their in-form Eoin Morgan departs! The left-hander is caught by Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma at point off Abu Nechim and KKR are in all sorts of trouble. Only two runs added in that over.

KKR 77/4 | Overs 12 |  Das 12*,  Morgan 5*

Debabrata Das clobbers a six on the last ball of the over off Harbhajan Singh as KKR add nine runs to their total.

KKR 68/4 | Overs 11 |  Das 3*,  Morgan 5*

Only six runs off Pragyan Ojha’s fourth over of the match and KKR reach 68 for four after 11 overs. KKR need a further 103 runs to win from 54 balls.

KKR 62/4 | Overs 10 |  Das 0*,  Morgan 3* OUT! Kallis 24(26)

Big wicket! Jacques Kallis is caught by Abu Nechim off Harbhajan Singh at the long-off boundary and KKR are in dire straits.

KKR 55/3 | Overs 9 |  Kallis 23*,  Morgan 1* OUT! Yusuf 13(8)

And here goes another! Yusuf Pathan tries to slam over the long-on on a delivery outside off stump, but the ball takes an inside edge and crashes into the wickets. Ojha bags his second wicket in the match.

KKR 52/2 | Overs 8 |  Kallis 22*,  Yusuf 12*

Only six runs scored off Abu Nechim’s second over in the game, with Pathan hitting a boundary on the third ball.

KKR 46/2 | Overs 7 |  Kallis 21*,  Yusuf 7*  OUT! Bisla 17(19)

Bisla is gone! The KKR batsman dances down the track for a big hit, is beaten by the turn from Pragyan Ojha and Dinesh Karthik does the rest. Yusuf Pathan walks in and slams a six off the second last ball to get going.

KKR 38/1 | Overs 6 |  Kallis 20*,  Bisla 17*

KKR batsmen add eight runs off Lasith Malinga’s first over in the game, with Bisla getting a boundary towards the third man area on a thick edge.

KKR 30/1 | Overs 5 |  Kallis 19*,  Bisla 10*

Very, very impressive from Mitchell Johnson as he ties down the struggling Manvinder Bisla at the strikers’ end. Only one run scored from that over.

KKR 29/1 | Overs 4 |  Kallis 18*,  Bisla 10*

Jacques Kallis gets a boundary on the final ball off Pragyan Ojha as KKR add seven runs to their total.

KKR 22/1 | Overs 3 |  Kallis 16*,  Bisla 5*

Harbhajan Singh drops a simple catch off Mitchell Johnson on the second ball, to provide a lifeline to Manvinder Bisla, who’s been clearly struggling against quality pace. On the next, Kallis pulls it hard to get a boundary over the ‘keepers’ head and Bisla ends the over with another four down the ground.

KKR 12/1 | Overs 2 |  Kallis 11*,  Bisla 0*

Jacques Kallis hits a boundary and a six over the point region to provide KKR a much-needed momentum after the early loss. Abu Nechim wasn’t tight with his line and is duly punished.

KKR 2/1 | Overs 1 |  Kallis 1*,  Bisla 0*  OUT! Gambhir 0(2)

Impressive start by Mitchell Johnson as he cleans up the dangerous Gautam Gambhir on the fourth ball of KKR’s chase. Gambhir plays a defensive stroke on a ball outside the off-stump, but the ball crashes into the leg stump after taking an inside edge.

Mumbai Indians will be mighty pleased with their effort with the bat despite the slip-up which they had towards the later part of the second half. Kolkata will have to bat responsibly as every game for them is a must-win!

MI 170/6 | Overs 20 |  D Karthik 34*, Johnson 10*

Sunil Narine misjudges a catch as he comes forward to grab a pull from Dinesh Karthik from the fine-leg boundary, the ball falls short and goes past the ropes. Karthik improvises on the next and hits it down the ground for a six. Five runs throuogh byes as McLaren drifts it down the leg, and on the one extra ball, Mitchell Johnson clobbers it over the ropes for six. 25 runs added in the final over.

MI 145/6 | Overs 19 |  D Karthik 24*, Johnson 1* OUT! Harbhajan 0(0)

Kolkata Knight Riders have comeback in a remarkable manner. After Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh is back in the hut without facing the ball. It was never a run but still Karthik and Harbhajan go for it, and the latter is out on a direct hit by Yusuf Pathan from shoft fine-leg. MI add 10 more to their total.

MI 135/5 | Overs 18 |  D Karthik 16* OUT! Rohit 16(10), Pollard 4(4) and Rayudu 0(0)

Three wickets in one over!!! Eoin Morgan takes a stunning catch to send back the on-song Rohit Sharma. The Mumbai captain pulls a short ball which Morgan takes near the boundary, but loses his balance and tosses it up in the air. He returns inside the ropes and takes it cleanly. Then in and out for Kieron Pollard. The big man slams a boundary over midwicket but is caught by Sunil Narine off McLaren at short fine-leg. More drama in the over as Ambati Rayudu is run-out, thanks to a brilliant fielding effort by Balaji.

MI 128/2 | Overs 17 | Rohit 16*,  D Karthik 15*

The Mumbai captain picks one off Sunil Narine and slams it over the midwicket boundary for a six on the last ball, as Mumbai garner another nine runs.

MI 119/2 | Overs 16 | Rohit 13*,  D Karthik 7*

Rohit Sharma gets a boundary off Bhatia towards the backward point region on the fifth ball, and follows it up with a clean hit over the long-on fence for a six. 13 runs added to their total.

MI 106/2 | Overs 15 | Rohit 2*,  D Karthik 5*

Sunil Narine comes into the attack and gives away only five runs. It’s a crucial stage for the Mumbai Indians as two new batsmen are in and they need to carry the momentum.

MI 101/2 | Overs 14 | Rohit 1*,  D Karthik 1* OUT! Smith 47(53)

Another! Dwayne Smith finally falls to Abdullah’s tactics of bowling wide and getting the batsman to play a big stroke. It was very wide outside off-stump, Smith fetches it, hits in the air and is caught by McLaren at long-on boundary.

MI 93/1 | Overs 13 | D Smith 41*,  OUT! Tendulkar 48(28)

Big wicket! Tendulkar moves across the wickets to hit towards the fine-leg area and is cleaned up by Rajat Bhatia. Earlier in the over, the Little Master had hit a boundary in the same manner on which the bowler had appealed hard for leg-before. Tendulkar out for 48!

MI 84/0 | Overs 12 | D Smith 39*, Tendulkar 41*

Tendulkar smashes it down the ground for a boundary off Abdulla as Mumbai are trying to up the scoring rate.

MI 77/0 | Overs 11 | D Smith 36*, Tendulkar 37*

Sachin Tendulkar plays it towards the fine-leg area on the last ball off Jacques Kallis for a four, as Mumbai add another eight runs to their total.

MI 69/0 | Overs 10 | D Smith 35*, Tendulkar 30*

Iqbal Abudulla is struggling with his line in the same manner Shaun Tait of Rajasthan struggled in the earlier game today. The left-arm tweaker drifts it down the led and Smith sweeps for a boundary. Six runs added to Mumbai’s total.

There has been no reduction in the overs even though lot of time was wasted.

Two of the four floodlight towers are out, and we are in for a long delay it seems…

MI 63/0 | Overs 9  | D Smith 30*, Tendulkar 29*

Jacques Kallis keeps it tight in his second over of the game as only four runs come off it. Mumbai have made a confident start and they’ll now look to push the scoring rate.

MI 59/0 | Overs 8 | D Smith 27*, Tendulkar 28*

Dwayne Smith punishes KKR spinner Iqbal Abdulla for being wayward with two consecutive boundaries. The first was hit towards the off-side, while the second falls just near the ropes on the deep midwicket region.

MI 50/0 | Overs 7 | D Smith 20*, Tendulkar 26*

Dwayne Smith whips towards the midwicket boundary for a four, and Mumbai batsmen scamper to add another five runs from Jacques Kallis’ opening over.

MI 41/0 | Overs 6 | D Smith 15*, Tendulkar 23*

KKR captain Gautam Gambhir brings on Sunil Narine in the bowling attack and he starts off on an impressive note, giving away only three singles.

MI 38/0 | Overs 5 | D Smith 12*, Tendulkar 23*

Balaji returns for his third over of the game and gives away only five runs. It has been a contrasting start by the KKR bowlers.

MI 38/0 | Overs 5 | D Smith 12*, Tendulkar 23*

Balaji returns for his third over of the game and gives away only five runs. It has been a contrasting start by the KKR bowlers.

MI 33/0 | Overs 4 | D Smith 10*, Tendulkar 22*

Sachin Tendulkar on fire! The Little Master slams five consecutive boundaries off McLaren as Mumbai shrug off a scratchy start. Tendulkar looks in sublime touch and Mumbai will hope that he gets a big one today!

MI 13/0 | Overs 3 | D Smith 10*, Tendulkar 2*

It has been a terrific start by Laksmhipathy Balaji. He has bowled 10 dot balls in his first two overs. Only two runs added by Mumbai to their total.

MI 11/0 | Overs 2 | D Smith 9*, Tendulkar 1*

Dwayne Smith cracks two straight drives as Mumbai collect 11 runs from the second over from Ryan McLaren.

MI 0/0 | Overs 1 | D Smith 0*, Tendulkar 0*

Dwayne Smith survives a couple of close shouts — a caught-behind and a leg-before — in the first over as Lakshmipathy Balaji bowls a good maiden over first up.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 53rd match of IPL 2013.
