Bangalore: May 19, 2013

Zaheer Khan has picked up four for 17 off his two overs. Chennai fell short by 24 runs. They never their innings going. Zaheer picked up two wickets off his first over and conceded only three runs. Chennai finish first despite the loss. Bangalore are now on 18 points. They will hope Sunrisers Hyderabad lose their last game.

CSK 82/6 | Overs 8 | Badrinath 0*  OUT! Dhoni 24 (10) and Jadeja 7 (4)

Zaheer goes for a four past fine-leg and Dhoni then carts him over for a six. Then Zaheer hurried Dhoni with a quick delivery. Dhoni’s pull was mistimed and was caught at deep mid-wicket. Jadeja was out caught and bowled. Zaheer finishes with 2-0-17-4. Bangalore win by 24 runs.

CSK 68/3 | Overs 7 | Dhoni 14*, Jadeja 3*  OUT! Vijay 32 (19)

Rampaul has taken Vijay’s wicket. A leading edge flew high and was taken by Gayle. Dhoni hit the fifth ball of the over out of the ground. Is it probably too late? Chennai need 39 off the final over.

CSK 56/3 | Overs 6 | Vijay 32*, Dhoni 1*

Vijay has hit a couple of big sixes but is it too late? RP Singh is missing his length. The length balls are just too easy to hit. Chennai score 19 off RP Singh’s first over. Chennai need 51 off two overs.

CSK 37/3 | Overs 5 | Vijay 18*, Dhoni 1*

Unadkat has given away only eight runs. He finishes with a spell of 2-0-16-0. What a spell of bowling. Vijay is struggling to get big hits. He is not connecting them. Three overs and 70 runs are needed. That is a lot.

CSK 29/3 | Overs 4 | Vijay 11* OUT! Bravo 11 (9)

Bravo has hit Vinay Kumar over mid-wicket for a six. He just pulled the short ball giving all his strength. But he tried to repeat the shot off the last ball. Chennai are reeling at Bangalore.

CSK 19/2 | Overs 3 | Vijay 10*, Bravo 2*

Jayadev Unadkat gives away only eight off the over. Super Kings need 88 off five overs. Unadkat beat Bravo with his pace and movement. Channai are reeling at Bangalore.

CSK 11/2 | Overs 2 | Vijay 5*, Bravo 0*  OUT! Hussey 6 (5) and Raina 0 (1)

Zaheer Khan has bowled a match-winning over probably. He has got the prized scalps of Hussey and Suresh Raina. Just three runs conceded and two wickets taken. Chennai need 96 off six overs.

CSK 8/0 | Overs 1 | Hussey 6*, Vijay 2*

Michael Hussey starts the proceedings with a four off the first ball. Ravi Rampaul bowls a bit short and Hussey has swiveled and hit a vintage pull. Eight have come off the first over.

Royal Challengers in a must-win situation have scored 106 off the eight overs. Virat Kohli remains unbeaten on 56. Chris Gayle scored 13-ball 28. AB de Villiers missed out. Moises Henriques hit three boundaries and played a three-ball 12 run cameo. Will Bangalore win this encounter? They have to in order to give themselves a chance to qualify for the playoffs.

RCB 106/2 | Overs 8 | Kohli 56*, Henriques 12*

Bangalore have got 106. Kohli, after not scoring off the first two deliveries, hits Bravo over long-off for a six. The fourth ball was a miss again, a possible edge may be. But Dhoni has not appealed. The fifth ball goes over mid-wicket for a six. The last ball is a four through mid-wicket. Kohli remains unbeaten on 56. Chennai need 107 to win off 48 balls.

RCB 90/2 | Overs 7 | Kohli 40*, Henriques 12* OUT! AB de Villiers 5 (3)

Mohit Sharma has AB de Villiers off his first delivery. But Henriques takes him on. A full toss was hit past covers, a slower ball was hit over extra-covers and then Henriques sliced the final delivery past point to make it a 14-run over.

RCB 76/1 | Overs 6 | Kohli 39*, AB de Villiers 5* OUT! Gayle 28 (13)

Chris Gayle is out. Dwayne Bravo is jubilant. He hit the ball to covers like a tracer bullet and Hussey caught it effortlessly. AB de Villiers hits the first ball through covers for a boundary.

RCB 66/0 | Overs 5 | Kohli 34*, Gayle 28*

Chris Gayle is cutting loose. Three sixes off Jason Holder by Gayle gives Bangalore an impetus. The three sixes went in one direction: over mid-wicket. Bangalore are racing away. Twenty have come off the over.

RCB 46/0 | Overs 4 | Kohli 33*, Gayle 9*

Kohli is on fire. He is aiming straight. He hits Morris straight over umpire’s head for a four and off the final ball hits over long-off for a flat six. Bangalore get 13 off the fourth over.

RCB 33/0 | Overs 3 | Kohli 21*, Gayle 8*

Bangalore have started with the hitting. Kohli rocks back and hits Ashwin for a flick-pull, he follows it up with a hit over mid-wicket for a four. Off the last ball Kohli hits Ashwin over long-off for a six. Bangalore get 17 off the third over.

RCB 16/0 | Overs 2 | Kohli 6*, Gayle 8*

Chris Morris starts the second over. He gets a lot of bounce off his first ball to Gayle. And when Morris pitched up to Gayle the Bangalore opener hit him over point for a six. Bangalore get 11 off the second over.

RCB 6/0 | Overs 1 | Kohli 5*, Gayle 1*

Bangalore have scored six off the first over. Kohli kickstarted the innings with a four off the second ball. Ravichandran Ashwin has begun well.

Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and they will bat first. Albie Morkel is injured so he misses out and Chris Morris comes in his place.

Bangalore will be itching to get out there. They have to win the match in order to give themselves a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

Good evening and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bangalore.

News from Bangalore is that it has been raining heavily since a while. An inspection was carried out at 20:10 when it had temporarily stopped raining, but the outfield was deemed unfit for playing.

The cut-off time for a 5 overs a side game is 23:20. If the match is called off, both teams will share a point, which would mean RCB would get knocked out of contention for the playoffs.

Following their heart-breaking loss in the first encounter, Bangalore will be looking to turn the tables on Chennai. A win for Bangalore will keep them in the hunt for the knock-outs but they will have to hope that Hyderabad loses its last match against Kolkata.
