“I have to bring to your notice that Mr. Sundar Raman’s continuation as COO of IPL is deeply prejudicial to the interest of IPL and the game of cricket,” Verma told Gavaskar in the letter.
“Besides other issues which will be appropriately raised before Hon’ble Supreme Court in SLP No.26633/2013 against Mr Sundar Raman, the transcript given by Mumbai Police to the Mudgal Committee indicates the role of Mr. Sundar Raman in passing insider information which clearly aided and abetted betting in the last season of IPL. This may well be proverbial tip of the iceberg,” he added.
Former captain Gavaskar was yesterday handed over the reins of BCCI for IPL-7 by the Supreme Court, and soon after that the continuation of Sundar Raman in his post became the talking point as he is employed with India Cements, the N Srinivasan-led company that owns Chennai Super Kings.
Verma further wrote: “The said conversation which forms part of Annexure-15 to the report filed by the Mudgal Committee shows intercept of 15th May, 2013 between Jaipur based bookie Pawan and Vindoo Dara Singh who was otherwise in constant touch with Gurunath Meiyappan and shows that Sundar Raman used to tip Gurunath Meiyappan regarding other teams.”
It was Verma, the secretary of an unrecognised body, who had filed a PIL in June last year, contending to the Bombay High Court that that BCCI’s two-member internal probe panel investingating into the IPL fixing issue was unconstitutional.
