India’s latest bowling sensation and future hope Mohammed Shami was bought by Delhi Daredevils for INR 4.25 crores during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 auctions being held in Bangalore.
The bidding over Shami had started at Rs 1 crore, and it came as a surprise when the franchises were not quick enough to tee off. Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab then bid frantically and took the base price when Kolkata Knight Riders joined in.
Thereafter it was a tripartite struggle as Delhi Daredevils, King’s XI Punjab, and Kolkata Knight Riders all continued to bid. Delhi eventually raised the bar to Rs 4.25 crores and managed to acquire Shami.
Kolkata Knight Riders, having run out of ‘Rights to Match’ cards, could not buy him back.
