Corey Anderson has become the hero for the Mumbai Indians after pulling off an unbelievable victory against the Rajasthan Royals to storm into the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. Anderson was bought by Mumbai as he made a name for himself by smashing the fastest century in One-Day Internationals (ODI). However, Anderson struggled to find consistency at Mumbai. Now, he hopes his latest innings helps him perform better.
Speaking to IPL’s official website, Anderson said, “I haven’t fully fulfilled what I probably should have done all this while and I only hope tonight is a start for bigger and better things to come. It is an amazing feeling to see the crowd come and support us even when we were a bit down in the tournament. Hopefully, we will give them a lot more to cheer.”
Anderson also recalled the moment Mumbai qualified in the midst of some drama. He said that he wasn’t nervous but was praying. With the scores level at 14.3 overs, Mumbai needed a boundary to qualify. Anderson said, “Yes! I was just hoping for a boundary, some kind of force that will help us cross the line. As soon as I heard the noise off the bat and saw the ball going over the boundary for a six into the crowds, it felt special.” Aditya Tare smashed that ball for a six.
Mumbai have now made it through to the playoffs and will face the Chennai Super Kings in the Eliminator on Wednesday. The winner of that game would go through to the second Qualifier to meet the team that loses the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab.
