IPL 2014 Final: Shakib al Hasan dismissed but Manish Pandey solid for Kolkata Knight Riders against Kings XI Punjab

Jun 1, 2014

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 final played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Shakib Al Hasan was run out by a direct hit from George Bailey. Ryan ten Doeschate was the new man in for KKR. Akshar Patel, who had gone for just five runs in his first two overs, bowled the 16th over. He conceded 10 runs off it to leave KKR needing 39 runs off 24 balls.

Mitchell Johnson bowled the 15th over of the innings, and went for just five off the first five balls before conceding a boundary to Shakib off the final delivery to make it nine runs off the over to leave KKR needing 49 off 30 balls with seven wickets remaining.

Earlier, Yusuf Pathan was dismissed by Karanveer Singh as he holed out to Glenn Maxwell in the deep for a good 36. That did not stop Manish Pandey, as he hit a six off the very next ball in the same area of midwicket.

Yusuf Pathan and Manish Pandey looked very good for KKR. Lakshmipathy Balaji bowled the 13th over. Yusuf Pathan managed to hit a six off the second and last ball of the over, as the pair scored 18 runs off the over.

Akshar Patel bowled a very good 12th over, nearly getting Manish Pandey out caught at covers. He was put down by George Bailey, as Akshar went for only three runs.

Earlier, Manish Pandey got to his half-century in the IPL 2014 final against Kings XI Punjab. Kolkata Knight Riders were chasing 200 for victory and they were at 107 for two in 11 overs. Yusuf Pathan is batting with Pandey.

Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan are helping Kolkata Knight Riders recover after the loss of Gautam Gambhir in the IPL 2014 Final against Kings XI Punjab. Kolkata are chasing 200 to win and are 73 for two in eight overs.

Gautam Gambhir was out off the first ball of the seventh over as he charged to Karanveer Singh and holed out to the deep. However, Pandey smoked a six off the next ball when he lofted it over cover for a six. Lakshmipathy Balaji then came to bowl the eighth over and Pandey lofted him for a four through the mid-wicket region.

Earlier, Kolkata won the toss and chose to bowl first on what looks like a very good batting track at Bangalore. Kolkata played an unchanged side for this contest. Punjab made one change as Lakshmipathy Balaji came in place of Sandeep Sharma. Wriddhiman Saha’s brilliant ton took Punjab to 199 for four.
