The news we are getting now is that rain has played spoilsport and today’s game will not happen. The match has been postponed to tomorrow and it will start at 4 PM

Hello and a warm welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2014 playoffs between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. I am Abhijit Banare and I will be bringing you the live updates of the match. Well, it’s a home game for KKR with a 75,000 crowd rooting for them. Before the excitement builds up, here’s some disappointing news: Rains could play some spoilsport. Weather prediction is that even if it rains, it might stop by 7pm but the crucial part is that there could be a downpour at around 10pm. There’s a reserve day tomorrow at 4pm in case play isn’t possible tonight.  Catch the Preview of the match here

Meanwhile, both teams look equally strong in this crucial Qualifier. They have the cushion of losing yet qualifying for a final but it’s better to finish the task here than hang by the thread for one last opportunity. KKR are coming in to this match at the back of eight consecutive wins. It looked like deflated campaign losing close matches and the batsmen failing to click with the skipper himself registering three consecutive ducks! But the fortunes have turned around. Robin Uthappa is certainly responsible for KKR’s success with nine 40+ score in a row! That is more than just a ‘purple patch’. And Yusuf Pathan announced himself in style catapulting them to the second spot with that stunning 22-ball 72 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, here’s the most consistent team of the IPL, they lost two matches to Mumbai Indians and once against KKR at Cuttack, and they have a win in all the remaining ones. 22 points in 14 matches indicate their dominance. And the wrecker-in-chief here is the duo of Glenn Maxwell and David Miller. The bowling has been equally effective with Sandeep Sharma ‘swinging’ everything in KXIP’s favour.

There will be some interesting duels to watch out for, here’s Shrikant Shankar’s piece on the key battles in the match here:
