The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council announced on Wednesday that the defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of the seventh edition of the T20 tournament on April 16.


The match will be played in Abu Dhabi at 18.30 local and 20.00 Indian Standard Time (IST).



The Governing Council also confirmed that around 20 matches of the IPL 2014 will be played in the United Arab Emirates. Three cities — Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai will host the matches.


“20 matches will be played in 3 stadiums: Sheikh Zayed Stadium- Abu Dhabi, Sharjah CA Stadium, Dubai International Cricket Stadium,” IPL’s official page announced on Twitter.
