Suresh Raina smashed a 25-ball 87 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 on Friday. Raina’s blazing half-century has riddled with an incredible 12 fours and six sixes. CSK were chasing a daunting 227-run target against KXIP at Wankhede Stadium in the IPL 7 Qualifier 2.
The sensational innings from Raina was heading to break the all-time record for the fastest century in professional cricket before he was run out in the seventh over. His 25-ball sequence read — 4, 1, 4, 4, 0, 6, 4, 0, 4, 4, 0, 4, 6, 0, 6, 6, 1, 1, 6, 6, 4, 4, 4, 4 and 4. Catch video highlights of Suresh Raina’s blistering innings of 87 off 25 deliveries here.
But after the fall of his wicket, CSK lost their way a bit. They did manage to score 202 for seven in their 20 overs with MS Dhoni scoring an unbeaten 31-ball 42 with three fours and three sixes. But that was not enough as KXIP won the match by 24 runs and qualified for their first-ever IPL final.
Earlier, KXIP had posted a mammoth 226 for six in their 20 overs thanks mainly to Virender Sehwag’s phenomenal 58-ball 122. He struck 12 fours and eight sixes. KXIP will play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2014 final on June 1 in Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
