The BCCI have zeroed in on Kanpur, Ranchi and Indore as alternate venues reports IBtimes, after the Bombay High Court ordered no matches in Maharashtra after April 30. Earlier, Bombay High Court ordered no matches in Maharashtra owing to a drought situation in areas of the state. There has been no official confirmation by BCCI, but considering the seriousness of the issue, the decision of High Court is unlikely to be reverted. The issue was racked up before the start of the IPL 2016, as High Court heard a PIL, which was aimed at shifting games from Maharashtra. While the HC allowed the first game to take place at Wankhede, it has made it clear no matches can take place after the end of this month. Also, it seems Kings XI Punjab are interested in shifting their three home games from Nagpur to Mohali. Kings XI, which is owned by Ness Wadia, are expected to play 5 games at Mohali and 3 games at Nagpur. Ness, who belongs to Maharashtra, earlier lauded the decision of shifting games from the three venues, stating the need of public is more than the matches.
The BCCI and IPL has had huge setbacks, with every plea of their being dismissed. They also stated to use treated sewage waters for usage in Maharashtra. Rajeev Shukla, chairman of IPL, stated it would not be feasible to shift games from Pune. Likewise, BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur stated Maharashtra would incur losses if matches are shifted, and questioned the decision of the HC.
