IPL 2016: Virat Kohli bags orange cap after record-breaking season for Royal Challengers Bangalore

Virat Kohli bagged the coveted Orange Cap after amassing 973 runs in ninth edition of Indian Premier League playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain and Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli bagged the coveted Orange Cap in the ninth edition of Indian premier League 2016. Virat Kohli amassed 973 runs in 16 matches. Kohli had a record-breaking season for RCB hitting as many as four-centuries most by any player in the history of IPL. RCB  won 3 of 4 the matches that Kohli cracked hundred. Kohli averaged a phenomenal 81.08 with a highest score of 113. David Warner came in a close second with 848 runs in 17 matches playing for IPL 9 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. AB de Villiers came in at No.3 in the leading run scorer of IPL 9, making with 687 runs in 16 matches with the highest strike-rate among the top 5 (168.79). Kolkata Night Riders (KKR) skipper came in a fourth with 501 runs in 15 matches, SRH’s Shikhar Dhawan also scored 501 runs in 17 matches. Kohli’s team fell short of just 8-runs of the IPL title chasing SRh’s mammoth target of 208 runs in the final at Bangalore.

When in the post match presentation Kohli was asked about him stockpiling  973 runs and winning the ‘Orange Cap’ Kohli said:”It is a nice incentive, but it does not feel good to be at the other side of the result. Why Sunrisers won is because they have a strong bowling attack. I knew I was hitting the ball well and I just wanted to keep contributing.
