Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bounced back to winning ways by thumping Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 26 runs in match 33 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 at Mohali. Playing in front of their home crowd for the very first time, KXIP were thrashed by David Warner (51 off 27), Shikhar Dhawan (77 off 48) and Kane Williamson (54* off 27). They eventually posted a dominating total of 207 for 3. In their reply, excluding Shaun Marsh (84 off 50) every other KXIP batsman succumbed against a potent SRH bowling unit managing to score 181. For SRH, Ashish Nehra, Siddarth Kaul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 2 wickets each while Rashid Khan took 1. Despite this being such a high-scoring game where 388 runs were scored, Rashid conceded just 16 runs in his 4 overs, getting the vital wicket of England skipper Eoin Morgan. In fact, the only boundary he conceded was off the 24th ball he bowled. He was rightfully adjudged Man of the Match. Full cricket updates: KXIP vs SRH, IPL 2017

Talking in the post-match presentation ceremony while receiving his award, Rashid said: “It’s a big league and it’s a big stage, playing with big names. So always trying my best to learn from them. We have a very good coaching staff. Murali has been superb so far with me and is supporting me and is giving me all his experience. I’m enjoying myself with him.” Rashid has been in an exceptional form playing in his debut IPL season and has so far managed to take 10 wickets in 7 games in IPL 2017.

“The confidence and the motivation given from the coaching staff and the skipper helps. I would like to dedicate this award to my brother. He has prayed for me and this goes to him,” he added.

SRH had to undergo a defeat against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) by 6 wickets and had to see the next game getting abandoned without a ball being bowled against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). But shunning their previous records, the reigning champions have made a strong comeback and are currently at No. 3 position in the IPL 2017 points table with 11 points in their account.

They will be next playing against current table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 2 at Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad.
