Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) succumbed to a 26-run defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mohali on Friday. With this win SRH moved to the third spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 table, while KXIP moved down to sixth. KXIP were set a target of 208. Shaun Marsh’s 50-ball 84 kept them in the hunt for a while, but it turned out to be too much for them in the end. Rashid Khan earned the Man of the Match award for his brilliant spell of 1 for 16. However, KXIP skipper Glenn Maxwell believes that his side were sloppy with the ball and also on the field, something that eventually cost them the game. “Yeah, sort of a close game. Probably shows how far we were. 25 runs and it shows what the difference it can make between a par score on this wicket. We were pretty sloppy on the field. We were sloppy with the ball as well. I don’t think we executed well. When you bowl both sides of the wicket, good players will make you pay,” Maxwell said after the match. He also heaped praise on Marsh, who fought a lone battle: “We really didn’t get off to a good start. Runs wise we were fine. Marsh was outstanding. He was class. He has been doing that consistently for ten years now for Kings XI. Just go back to the basics. A quick turnaround for us is needed. Hopefully, turn up better in the next game.” READ: IPL 2017: SRH put up a clinical performance to wallop KXIP by 26 runs
KXIP take on Delhi Daredevils (DD) next on April 30. They will hope that they can add to DD’s woes by taking two crucial points off them.
