IPL 2017: ‘Missing IPL a big deal for me’, says Gujarat Lions’ Dwayne Bravo in a video message
Bravo apologised the Gujarat fans. He also requested his fans to understand his plight, as had been looking forward to seeing him play in the tournament.
Players from the Caribbean have always been a toast of the Indian Premier League (IPL). From Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Kieron Pollard, Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Sunil Narine to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Chris Gayle, the West Indies cricketers have always been the flavour of different IPL seasons. Another such player is Dwayne Bravo, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. After the franchise’s two-year suspension, he was bought by Gujarat Lions (GL) for a two-year period. He was a vital cog when the GL topped the points table in IPL 2016. However, he remained on the sidelines for the first few games of IPL 2017 due to a hamstring injury.
And now, in a big blow to the Gujarat Side, Bravo has been ruled out of the entire season. Gujarat Lions owner Keshav Bansal had confirmed the same a day back through a tweet. Bravo himself confirmed the development via a video message. The West Indian all-rounder, addressing his fans in the video, said that he regrets missing out on the tournament. The video was shared by Gujarat Lions’ official Twitter handle.
“I am going to withdraw of the IPL officially. Yes, and on a very, very, sad note,” Bravo said in the video message. “We all know I am still coming back from a bad injury. I had a surgery back in January and had 16 week of rehab. I have come a very long way I must say. But I don’t think I am ready to give my 100 per cent as yet, which means this is not the right time for me to get back to cricket,” he further said. Watch him talk here:
Bravo apologised the Gujarat fans. He also requested his fans to understand his plight, as had been looking forward to seeing him play in the tournament. However, he said he is the best judge of his body and has to trust his mind as well as instincts. That is precisely why he has decided to go back home, continue with the rehab and return to cricket fitter and stronger.
Bravo concluded the video by wishing his team the best. He also thanked the management, the trainers and all the stakeholders. It goes without saying that the Gujarat Lions, who are currently placed at the 7th spot with just 2 wins from 7 games, will miss Bravo’s services.
