Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was, on Tuesday night, washed out without a ball being bowled. Persistent rain did not even allow the toss to take place, as the field at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru remained under covers. It all began in the evening when the proceedings were delayed due to a drizzle around the slated time. To make matters worse, the rain got heavier with time. Though it did subside in between to allow the umpires Marais Erasmus and C Shamshuddin to have an inspection, the chance looked remote.  FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), IPL 2017, Match 29

Even till past 10 pm IST, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium remained packed with the fans who had come out in anticipation to see the local side put up a better show. A few nights ago, Royal Challengers Bangalore were bowled out for the lowest-ever total of 49 in IPL, against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The crushing defeat at the hands of the Gautam Gambhir-led side saw RCB lose the contest by a huge margin of 82 runs while chasing a moderate target of 132. None of the RCB batsmen were able to cross a double-digit score, with Kedar Jadhav being the top scorer with 9 runs. Amid the carnage, Chris Gayle had faced 17 deliveries which were the most for any RCB batsman. FULL CRICKET BLOG: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), IPL 2017, Match 29

With the washout against the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Virat Kohli-led side were indeed awarded one point, but there was a slight difference in their position in the IPL 2017 points table. After seven matches till now — half of their allotted matches in the first round — RCB had remained at the bottom of the pool with a mere two wins, five defeats. But with this washed out game, RCB have moved to the sixth spot in the points table, over Delhi Daredevils (DD) at seventh spot and Gujarat Lions (GL) at the end.

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, there was perhaps an opportunity lost to register one more win. The David Warner-led side based on current form and team composition, looked favourites to win the clash against RCB. Moreover, the defending champions of IPL 2017 had eased past RCB in their backyard in Hyderabad, winning the tournament’s first match by 35 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.

RCB will be eager to get back to their best as they do not have a lot of time left to resurrect their campaign in IPL 2017. RCB will be next seen in action on Thursday, April 27, when they take on another fallible side of IPL 2017, Gujarat Lions (GL), at the same venue.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad will have a long gap of more than one week. SRH will next play against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on April 28, at Mohali.
