As Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Delhi Daredevils (DD) at home ground Eden Gardens in Match 32 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, Sanju Samson said the dropped catch of Robin Uthappa cost the visitors the match. It was an easy chance when Uthappa pulled one Kagiso Rabada delivery behind square leg. Both Samson and Amit Mishra came running for the catch. Due to lack of communication, both cricketers backed out of the attempt at the last moment to avoid collision, thus letting go an easy chance to dismiss Uthappa, who later went on to add 59 runs before getting run out and contributed majorly towards KKR’s 7-wicket victory. Full Cricket Scorecard, KKR vs DD, Match 32

Talking about the match in the post match conference, Samson said, “The catches do count. Everyone knows that catches win matches. Uthappa was dropped and he made use of that. I think that cost us the match. It is a very busy crowd (at the Eden Gardens); there’s a lot of noise and it is not easy to communicate while the ball goes up. It happens in match and I think we need to move on. We have one match day after and we need to forget and move on.”

Uthappa slammed 5 fours and 4 sixes during his knock.Samson himself scored a brilliant 60 that powered DD earlier to post a competitive total of 160 for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Apart from Samson, Shreyas Iyer too contributed with a 34-ball 47. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers for them with a couple of wickets. Chasing the target, Gautam Gambhir scored an unbeaten 71 to take his side to victory.
