Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma achieved another milestone in his T20 career for the franchise in Indian Premier League (IPL). Playing the second qualifier of 2017 edition of IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Rohit touched 3,000-run mark in the tournament’s history for MI. He has total of 3,275 runs for MI, out of which 288 scored in Champions League T20. He reached the milestone mark with a four to Piyush Chawla . Prior to this match, Rohit required 13 runs to touch the landmark. By doing so, he became the first batsman from his team achieve this feat. Rohit also became the fifth player to touch this milestone mark for a single franchise after Virat Kohli (3,016 for Royal Challengers Bangalore), Suresh Raina (3,669 for Chennai Super Kings), Chris Gayle (3,163 for RCB) and Gautam Gambhir (3,041 for KKR).

Out of all those runs by Rohit, 1,952 came as captain and 48 more will make him the fourth player in IPL to score 2,000 runs as skipper for a single franchise after Kohli (3,016 for RCB), David Warner (2,051 for Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Gambhir (mentioned above).

Playing the second qualifier of the tournament against KKR, Rohit averages 48.86 against them with 684 runs at a strike rate of 138.74. This is best average against any opponent with 5-match cut-off. Moreover, Rohit needs one more catch to complete 50 catches mark for MI in IPL. He has taken total of 71 catches in IPL.
