Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma has been fined 50 per cent during his side’s match against Rising Pune Riders (RPS) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Rohit in the final over of the match showed dissent towards the on-field umpire after the latter did no declare a wide ball. MI needed 17 runs to win in the last over. Jaydev Unadkat took the wicket of Hardik Pandya on the first ball, and then was smacked for a six by Rohit. On the third ball seeing Rohit shuffle, Unadkat bowled an outside off fuller ball, which was seen as moving away from the wide-line. Don’t know whether it was actually a wide-ball’, says Harbhajan after MI’s loss to RPS

Umpire S Ravi did not give call it a wide ball to which Rohit walked down towards him and had a small argument. He was out the next ball for a 39-ball 58 that saw MI loss the match by 3 runs. According to IPL guideline and breach of conduct Sharma was found guilty of breaking level 1 offence. “Mr Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. This is Mr Sharma’s second Level 1 offence this season,” the IPL release said.

“For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it further added. This is the second time during this year’s IPL that Rohit has shown dissent at an umpire’s decision. He had earlier disagreed with the umpire’s decision during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders a couple of weeks ago.

However, he was let off with a reprimand by the match referee on that occasion.
