Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) took on Delhi Daredevils (DD) in match 52 of Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday to strengthen their chances of reaching the playoffs. Opting to bat, DD faced early setbacks as RPS got breakthroughs to restrict the run flow. At 83 for 3, opener Karun Nair was joined by Marlon Samuels and the duo looked set to take the total over 170. In the 14th over, RPS skipper Steven Smith resorted to Dan Christian and he got rid of Samuels off the last delivery, albeit an MS Dhoni special. The wicket, actually, was more of Dhoni’s than Christian’s. Full Cricket Scorecard, Delhi Daredevils vs Rising Pune Supergiant, IPL 2017, Match 52

Samuels was looking in his elements. He had struck two maximums and a four in his brief stay at the crease by then. The West Indian was lending good support to Nair but fell trying to up the ante. Christian dropped a slow short ball and Samules made room to clear it towards mid wicket. However, he was a tad bit early into his shot and had to improvise at the last minute. He thus managed an edge which flew towards Dhoni. The former Indian skipper timed his jump to perfection and took a neat catch behind the stumps. Watch it here:

The ball was racing towards the boundary, but Dhoni’s presence of mind made all the difference. RPS managed to hold DD at 168 for 8 in 20 overs. Nonetheless, losing wickets at crucial juncture in their chase, RPS lost the match by 7 runs. They are still in contention for a spot in the last four and will rely on the outcome of Gujarat Lions (GL) versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clash before their group stage encounter versus Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday.
