Despite posting a decent total of 198 runs on the board, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) lost the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday at Indore in the 10th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). Opener Hashim Amla played a brilliant knock for KXIP by scoring his maiden century in T20 cricket and remained unbeaten as well. His knock did help putting up a good total but it was KXIP bowlers, especially pacers, who ruined everything. Ishant Sharma conceded 58 runs from his spell of four overs. Not only bowlers, but KXIP’s fielding also let them down as crucial catches were dropped by them.  FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians – Match 22

After facing their 4th consecutive defeat, KXIP skipper Glenn Maxwell said during the post-match ceremony, “Conditions were pretty favourable for batting as you can probably tell. 198 was a good score and I thought we would be able to defend it given how well the bowlers had performed recently.”

Maxwell also praised Amla’s knock and spoke about the positives from this match despite loss. “Hashim getting a hundred was a positive. Marsh hit the ball beautifully but he found the fielders with some shots. Plenty of positives on the batting side. Bowlers are bowling well enough to create those chances,” said KXIP captain.

He also spoke about the catches dropped by his side and accepted that nothing can be done when someone bats in a blistering manner in powerplays. “Last couple of innings, we’ve dropped a lot of catches. Any time a guy comes out and takes you on in the powerplay, there’s nothing you can do, especially on a wicket like that. We tried change of pace, slower balls, but he hit them all. We go to Rajkot now, another good wicket,” said Maxwell.

KXIP’s next match is going to be against Gujarat Lions (GL) at Rajkot on Sunday. They have lost as well as won one match against them so far.
