AB de Villiers emerged as one of the key architects of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Match 8 of VIVO IPL 2018. After succumbing to five defeats at home in the 2017 edition, RCB returned to their winnings ways at M Chinnaswamy stadium. De Villiers’ 40-ball 57 ensured RCB finished off a 4-wicket win.

The highlight of his innings was hitting back-to-back sixes in the 17th over off teen sensation Mujeeb Zadran. During the chase of 156, de Villiers was out in the first ball of the 19th over and that put the RCB lower order under pressure.

De Villiers regretted, “Really wanted to get over the line. Wanted to be not out in the end but feel sorry that I got out and put pressure on the lower order batsmen. I love guiding the team to victory being unbeaten, unfortunately couldn’t do that.”

The South African legend, who had earlier hoped for Chinnaswamy Stadium to re-earn its tag of “six-hitting capital”, praised his bowlers and called the wicket “slow”.

“The wicket was little bit on the slower side and Yuzi (Chahal) and Sundar bowled well. They got the important wickets and got the momentum our way at half stage,” said the 34-year-old.

RCB will next host Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday.
