Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have played three games in VIVO IPL 2018. With just a win from three games, RCB are placed at sixth position in the 2018 IPL points table. RCB enter the contest against Mumbai Indians (MI) with overall win / loss ratio of 13:8 and 4:3 ratio at Wankhede, all favouring MI. Despite a famed side, RCB have failed to click together as a team. RCB bowlers who came good at their first home game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), were ripped apart in the second home game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by Sanju Samson’s massacre.

Yet, Chris Woakes, Washington Sundar have stood out with their bowling figures consistently. Sundar has scalped 3 wickets from 3 matches thus far at 33.33. Amongst the batting, Virat Kohli finally got going with the runs at M. Chinnaswamy on Sunday against RR with his fastest T20 fifty.

Brendon McCullum was dismissed for single digits in two consecutive games. A lot has been dependent on opener Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers who have managed to remove RCB from ruins. Another notable contribution has come from Mandeep Singh lower down the order with scores of 37, 22 and 47* from the three games of 2018 IPL.

De Villiers, in his column for The Times of India (TOI), lauded the consistency of Sundar and Mandeep. He urged the remaining RCB players to pick cues from Mandeep and Sundar’s consistency: “Right now, three games into the tournament, with a win and two defeats, we are working incredibly hard to find momentum taking us in the right direction. If we can get the detail right, if we can match the form being shown by Mandeep Singh and Washington Sundar, then we can realise our potential.”

Samson storm:

The RR vs RCB game saw 88 runs scored off the last five overs – the second highest in IPL history – with Umesh Yadav conceding 27 off the 20th over. Samson’s 45-ball 92* saw RR cruise to 223, the highest total in 2018 IPL.

De Villiers heaped praise on Samson. He believes Samson could well end up as Orange Cap holder in this IPL: “Sanju Samson played a special innings for RR. I have stayed in contact with him by email for a few years now, and it is great to see an exciting young talent emerging in Indian cricket. How far can he go in the game? Believe me, there is no limit to his potential.”
