Alex Hales has been roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as a replacement for David Warner in the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2018 season. He was was bought for his base price of INR 1 crore from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list. Warner was suspended from IPL by BCCI due to his involvement in ball-tampering scandal. His exclusion from the squad had made the position of an opener and  captain vacant.

Hales has been a regular member of the England squad in limited overs formats. He is ranked at No.7 in T20I batting rankings. An explosive top-order batsman, he has an impressive record in the format. The English cricketer has 2 centuries in T20s and a strike rate touching 144. Hales has played for Melbourne Renegades, Duronto Rajshahi, Adelaide Strikers, Worcestershire and Hobart Hurricanes. He was also roped in as an replacement for Corey Anderson by Mumbai Indians in 2015 but did not play any game. He will be hoping to make his IPL debut this season.

According to reports, SRH had approached Kusal Perera  to serve as a replacement for Warner. Kusal however, turned down the offer  and preferred playing domestic cricket to make a Test come back in the international side. Kane Williamson was appointed as SRH captain with Bhuvneshwar Kumar being his deputy.

SRH start their IPL campaign on April 9 against Rajasthan Royals at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
