The final match of the league stage of VIVO IPL 2018 saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 5 wickets. KXIP were invited to bat and they managed only 153 after Lungi Ngidi produced figures of 4-1-10-4. Karun Nair’s brisk fifty and Manoj Tiwary’s early resistance helped KXIP to some respectability. To ensure a Playoff berth, KXIP had to bowl out CSK within 100 runs. They started off well with Ankit Rajpoot bowling consistently in the corridor of uncertainty but CSK experimented with the batting order to unsettle KXIP. The ploy worked to some extent with Deepak Chahar producing a cameo and getting involved in a match defining stand with Suresh Raina.

CSK finished second in the points table after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are the other sides to secure qualification.
