Rajasthan Royals (RR) failed to chase down the revised target of 151 in 12 overs against Delhi Daredevils (DD) in Match 32 of Vivo IPL 2018. As a result they have jumped up two places to secure sixth spot on the points table, past Mumbai Indians and RR. Ajinkya Rahane promoted Jos Buttler ahead of himself to up the tempo. Buttler reached his fifty in 18 balls (the fastest in RR history) and the third-fastest fifty in the ongoing tournament, but his 26-ball 67 but could not take RR home.

The game went till the end, when RR were left to score 15 in the last over. Trent Boult started with a wide but came back well, conceding 4 off the next 3 balls. Rahul Tripathi was run out on the fourth ball, bringing Krishnappa Gowtham on strike. With 10 to score off 2, Gowtham hit the ball very hard — but it covered more height than distance. Glenn Maxwell dropped the catch but RR got only 4. Gowtham was left to hit a six off the last ball but could not pull it off.

Buttler and Ben Stokes have been criticised for their poor performance in the league so far. However, Buttler rose to the occasion today with his 27-ball 67. However, he failed to take RR through as he was foxed by Amit Mishra and was stumped.

Short found it hard to get the ball away towards the beginning but found his touch after Butter fell. With 51 to score in 3 overs, Short smashed 3 consecutive sixes to Glenn Maxwell but fell in pursuit of a fourth. His 44 took 25 balls. Gowtham, 18 not out off only 6 balls, could probably have batted higher. Boult finished with 3-0-26-2, fantastic figures in defence of an asking rate of 12.67.

Earlier, DD posted 196 for 6 in 17.1 overs with Rishabh Pant (69) anchoring the batting line up. Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer gave DD the start they were looking for, adding 73 for the second wicket. Jaydev Unadkat managed to pick 3 wickets but also leaked 46 runs. Only Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes were able to keep their economy below 10.
