Delhi Daredevils (DD) registered their first win in Vivo IPL 2018 defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) in a last-over thriller. MI got off to a flier with Evin Levis and Suryakumar Yadav recording a 100-run stand for the opening wicket. At one point it seemed like they were cruising for 220, but the Delhi bowlers did well in the death overs, conceding only 36 in the last 5 overs and picking 5 wickets. In the post-match presentation, Gautam Gambhir appreciated his bowlers and admitted that MI were 20-30 runs short from where they were cruising: ”[Trent] Boult, [Mohammed] Shami, tremendous effort, we thought they were going to get 230, we restricted them to 190. We thought they were 20-30 runs short. That itself was a positive.”

Jason Roy, who was playing his first game for DD, batted exceptionally well and remained unbeaten on 91. Mumbai had made it a habit of taking the match to the last over. Today it seemed like we were in for a super over after Mustafizur Rahman bowled a hat-trick of dots in the last over and took the equation to 1 from 1. However, Roy got the ball away and DD won a game in Mumbai after six years. Gambhir was all in praise: ”He’s a class player. We’re a dangerous side if we keep going like that.”
