Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lost their second game in VIVO IPL 2018  against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a last over thriller. Andre Russell powered the Kolkata total to 202 with his innings of 88* off 36. Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu started things well for CSK. It was Sam Billings for Chennai who anchored the innings hitting 56 off 23. With 17 needed off the last over, Vinay Kumar was handed the responsibility to defend it as CSK chased it down with one ball remaining.

Heath Streak, KKR’s bowling coach addressed media during practice session. He said that executing plan would be the main focus and also appreciated Billings innings.

It was a tough performance

“I think the biggest thing for us would be to execute our plans well. We had a couple of costly drop catches (against CSK). We dropped (Sam) Billings on 9 and he played superbly. He played some really good shots and we also didn’t bowl our best to him. So it was a tough performance, and we have got to learn from those mistakes.”

Streak updated on Mitchell Johnson’s fitness, said that he will hopefully make it to the next game. He also praised Russell’s overall performance and Sunil Narine’s bowling. Narine only conceded 17 runs off his four overs in a high scoring match.

“Mitch Johnson missed out on that game, he was rested for a slight niggle. Hopefully, he’ll be back for the next game. I thought (Sunil) Narine was outstanding, I thought Andre (Russell) was also brilliant with the ball. So we’ve got a couple of guys bowling well. And then we’ve seen our spinners, and we know what they can do. We just need to put a collective bowling performance in, in the next game.”

Vinay Kumar leaked 35 runs in 1.5 runs, talking on that Streak admitted he was disappointed the way Vinay bowled the last over.

“Obviously that first ball he missed (pitching it) by a long way, and it went for a six. There was a lot of pressure on him. It’s always easier to introspect. And I know, he’s really disappointed how he bowled that last over. If we knew he’s gonna go for that, you wouldn’t bowl him. But we didn’t know that. We could only go with what people have done in the past,” Streak concluded.
