Jofra Archer was roped in for INR 7.2 crores in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auction, held in January at Bengaluru. Rajasthan Royals (RR) got hold of him, and after a rather average start — with 2 wins out of 5 matches — the franchise have resorted to the West Indian in the playing XI for their home game versus defending champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) in match 21 of ongoing VIVO IPL 11. Archer replaces Ben Laughlin in the playing XI.

Archer caught everyone’s attention when he delivered with the ball in Big Bash League 2017-18 (BBL). Playing for Hobart Hurricanes, the right-arm medium pacer struck 16 times to end as the fifth highest wicket-taker in the edition. He was pitted against the likes of Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo and Andrew Tye and didn’t bog down for once. He ended with an impressive economy rate of 7.96 and averaged 23. He even played a couple of matches in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 before missing out due to injury.

Archer has been brought in to add more pace and value to RR’s pace department. They conceded in excess of 200 in their previous encounter, versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and will like to rectify that courtesy Archer’s inclusion. With a high-arm action, Archer generates good pace and hits the deck hard. The pacer was presented his cap by bowling partner Dhawal Kulkarni.
