Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were on a shopping spree during the 2018 IPL auctions. They bought many explosive batsmen and some handy bowlers to their side. Some of their best buys was KL Rahul for INR 11 crores and Chris Gayle, who was picked by KXIP during the third round of unsold players for his base price INR 2 crores. However, the biggest question for them lies, who will keep the wickets and lead the side as they do not have Eoin Morgan or Glenn Maxwell in their side anymore.

KXIP are yet to taste success in IPL. They began the season as a semi-finalist and only once have they made it the final which was in 2014. Since, they have never reached the playoffs stage. KXIP also received second abode this season apart from Mohali in the form of Holkar Stadium in Indore. Apart from the host of changes in terms of venue and squads, KXIP have also sought for a name change ahead of IPL.

This might be a new concept in India; it is not in The United States of America (USA). The NBA and Baseball league teams can change their names when they change base. Preity Zinta pointed out towards the same concept and hence placed the request for name change said a BCCI official as mentioned on Hindustan Times.

Last year, Rising Pune Supergiants dropped the final ‘s’ from their franchise name and was called Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS).
