Current Zimbabwe coach Heath Streak has been appointed bowling coach by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He will take over responsibilities from the outgoing Laxmipathy Balaji, who will join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a similar capacity. Streak was earlier appointed bowling coach of Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016 and 2017 season.
Streak joins the likes of Simon Katich and Jacques Kallis as part of the backroom staff for KKR. Speaking to the Sportstar Streak sounded excited about working with Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi said: They really look technically sound, so for me, it is about giving them good tactical support and helping them out. Playing at the U-19 World Cup is very different from playing in the IPL against highly-experienced players.
They have got the skills and resources to be able to do that; it’s just helping them make smart decisions, especially under pressure. That’s what it is all about — playing in the big league.”
He about opened about working with newly-appointed KKR skipper, Dinesh Karthik, who he had worked with during Lions’ stint. He said: DK is a lovely guy and he’s got a very astute cricket brain. He is a very open-minded guy, and is open to listening. The best thing is he loves the game, loves talking about it and he was a good friend in the two years we had spent at Gujarat Lions.”
