Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) suffered another injury blow during the VIVO IPL 2018 as they lost pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti for the season. Karnataka’s Prasidh Krishna has been called to the KKR camp as a replacement. Before the start of the tournament, KKR lost their premier pacer Mitchell Starc to due to a tibial bone stress fracture in his right leg. The pacer got injured during Australia’s tour of South Africa last month.

It is believed that Nagarkoti was carrying a foot injury before the start of IPL 2018. Nagarkoti was amongst the three Under-19 Indian players in the KKR side after Shubman Gill and Shivam Mavi. Nagarkoti grabbed the headlines during the 2018 U-19 World Cup where he played a huge role in India’s tournament win. He picked 9 wickets from 6 matches at 16.33 and his economy rate was 3.48. Only 18, Nagarkoti impressed the fraternity with his pace and accuracy. He clocked mid-140 kph during the tournament, making it difficult for the opponents.

KKR rewarded the youngster with a INR 3.2 crore contract by winning his bid during the 2018 IPL Auctions. Nagarkoti was mentored by Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Foundation. He did not feature in the first 2 matches for KKR with experienced Vinay Kumar being preferred over him.

Krishna, who replaced Nagarkoti, was under the tutelage of Jeff Thomson. The 22-year-old has 1 First-Class match, against Bangladesh A, and bagged a 6-wicket haul. He has an impressive List A record, bagging 33 wickets from 19 matches at 21.27. He has 4 wickets from 3 T20s.

KKR will play Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) next on Saturday at Eden Gardens.
