Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Delhi Daredevils (DD) in Match 9 of VIVO IPL 2018 at their den on Saturday. Both sides are yet to register a win in the tournament. It has been ‘so close yet so far’ moment for MI in both their matches so far. Delhi’s hopes, on the other hand, were dampened by rains in the second game, after a sound thrashing by KL Rahul in their first.

Against RR, DD bowlers came good after being torn apart by KXIP batsmen. Trent Boult led the way while Shahbaz Nadeem was up the ante replacing off-colour Amit Mishra against RR. Despite being embroiled in his personal controversy, Mohammed Shami, too, came good with the ball after leaking 26 runs from his two overs against KXIP. DD’s batting needs not much tinkering. Gautam Gambhir, however, will expect much better show from opener Colin Munro. The New Zealander has just 4 runs under his belt so far in 2018 IPL.

MI, on the other hand, have plenty of work to do with their batting. It firstly begins with their skipper Rohit Sharma. With scores of 15 and 11, he would look to get the ball rolling in the top-order. Evin Lewis and Ishan Kishan would be expected to follow suit. MI’s power hitters are their middle-order that comprises of Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya. With Hardik expected to be fit for the third game, MI can expect to solve their middle-order woes against a bowling heavy DD.

Rookie Mayank Markande has impressed for MI. The Purple Cap holder has left the fraternity talking and Rohit will want the 20-year old to cause some early problems for the famed DD batting line-up. If Hardik enters the fray, Ben Cutting who failed with the bat and ball could be excluded. Pradeep Sangwan, too, failed to impress. Mitchell McClenaghan could be given another go.

DD Likely 11:

Gautam Gambhir (c), Colin Munro, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Vijay Shankar, Chris Morris, Rahul Tewatia, Shahbaz Nadeem, Trent Boult and Mohammed Shami.

MI Likely 11:

Evin Lewis, Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya / Ben Cutting, Mayank Markande, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mayank Markande and Jasprit Bumrah.

Some stats:

-       #DoYouKnow Maxwell is just a catch away from 100 catches?

-       Maxwell will also be playing his 199th T20 match.

Predictions:

The confidence of both sides have been dented after consecutive losses. The fear of a third loss on the trot will haunt both the teams. But MI have something to ease them out. MI have won 11 out of their 20 games against DD.
