Wriddhiman Saha injured his hamstring midway of the South Africa Test series last month. He did not play the second and third Test. Parthiv Patel replaced him. However, it proved to be a tough assignment for the wicketkeeper-batsman. He was criticised for missed chances behind the stumps. As for batting, Parthiv managed just 56 runs from 2 matches at 14.

However, Parthiv believes he kept well and showed character during the Test series.

“I thought I kept well on that difficult wicket in the third Test at Johannesburg where the ball was keeping up and down. I also showed a lot of character by opening the innings (in the second innings) and tried to contribute as much as I could both as a batsman and keeper,” Parthiv told The Times of India.

Parthiv will be playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2018 under Virat Kohli. He was associated with Mumbai Indians (MI) from 2015 until last year. Prior to that he played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Deccan Chargers (DC), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and RCB. After disappointing the Indian skipper during the South Africa Test series through his dismal show, Parthiv is eager to make the most of the opportunity through IPL.

“Virat brings a huge amount of positivity into the team and to the dressing-room. He always leads by example and the team rallies around him.”
